Mattress/Bed suggestions?

I have a 25 mo DS and we are expecting our little girl in April.
DS exclusively coslept until his second bithday when we got him a big-boy car bed and put it next to ours. He took right to it and sleeps in it about 80% of the time. One or two nights a week he needs extra cuddle time and will crawl into bed with us (perfectly welcome).

We have had a queen mattress on the floor up to now and I want to invest in a new mattress before the baby arrives. I have three questions:

1. Is a California King worth the added expense over a reg king for 2 adults, one baby and the occasional toddler?

2. Reg mattress, organic mattress or synthetic? Why?

3. Anyone have a low-profile bed platform/frame they can link me to? I prefer to keep my bed low to the ground but hate the "look" of a mattress on the floor.

Thanks!

I don't know about organic or not but I seem to remember that new mattresses need some time in a ventalated room to "off gas" as the chemicals in making it are still IN it when wrapped in plastic. Maybe an organic would work for that not being an issue?

I have to say that a Cal King sounds AWESOME but I'd probably just get a regular King and be super excited vs. the Queen we have now.

king. so worth it!
right now costco has the best price on an all natural latex mattress. it is not completely organic but the fire retardent standard is met by them using muslin on the mattress (it's by the way the fabric is weaved) and without chemicals. It has a removable cover that you could replace with an organic one... we just ordered one for my DD. it was a good compromise as far as price/chemicals went. and they have an online coupon for them now until jan. 3

About two months ago I got a king size all natural latex mattress from Berkeley Ergonomics. It doesn't have any chemical flame retardants or crazy polyurethane. I have been super comfortable so far. I do have my mattress on the floor.

I had been sleeping on a $5k king size "Golden Elegance" from Macy's. (We bought that before we knew the dangers of typical mattresses. ) We had it less than 9 years even though it was warranted for 15 years. I will never by another mattress that is not all natural.

I would highly recommend the Berkeley.

Where did you buy it? The site does not have any info on how/where to purchase.

We have a king bed and it is sooo worth it. If you could affors it, I would go ith a natural bed too. If you couldn't afford it, I would stick with the one you have since it is not new and probably off gassed a bit.

We got our used (but in new sape) right here in the trading post. It was originally $4000, but we got it for $1000. It is a greensleep bed, wool, natural ruber, organic cotton, and no chemicals. The best nights sleep ever, and pretty good at not bothering the other sleepers since it doesn't have springs.http://www.greensleep.ca/
We have our directly on the floor since the base didn't come with it, and we prefer it on the floor so I don't worry about kids rolling too far down.
