Should I buy presents for my kids too?

Stepdaughter is 24 and has two kids. We buy her gifts and the grandkids gifts. My kids are 9 and 2. Stepdaughter is very cash strapped and does not buy gifts for anyone. My kids get upset that the other kids are getting gifts.

Should I just bring some for them too, or just one gift apiece?

I assume that you already get your own kids gifts that they open at a separate time. Maybe take one or two of their gifts with you for them to open with the other children (and remind them that they are getting or already got their other gifts from you at another time)? Also, the 9yo should be old enough to understand the circumstances - not everybody can afford to give gifts to them but we enjoy spending time together and that is the important part. Make it less about the gifts and more about sharing an occasion together.

I probably would take a small gift for your children. I remember what it was like to be a kid and I would have been disappointed if other children got a gift and not me (excluding birthdays).

I'm confused. Are you buying Christmas gifts for your step-daughter and grandkids, but not your own younger children? Why?

I'm not going to presume, as amma_mama did, that you're buyng your kids gifts to open at a separate time since the title of this thread is "Should I BUY presents for my kids too?"

Definitely buy presents for your kids as well as your grandkids. It's got to be upsetting that their mom is buying presents for other kids (and an adult sister!), but not them. And really, it's not fair. If you can't afford gifts for five, then scale back whan you're buying for the three you are shopping for.

Of course I buy gifts for my kids to open on Christmas Day! We just have a little something separate on a different day for stepdaughter and her kids.

The title is misleading, sorry, I don't know what else to call it. I try to come up with concise titles that explain the thread. I should have put this in parenting anyway.
