hard poop..TMI. help please.

my 8mo has been pooping balls of hard poo all day. just a small ball at a time but my hands are sore (from washing) from changing him! he's eating as he usually does (squash, oat, applesauce), nursing as usual and doesn't seem to be in pain or anything. i should mention he might be teething. what can i give him to make it soft again? i don't have an prune juice handy. anything else that helps? thanks.

Do you give him water after he eats? I have always heard that when they start solids that it's the time to start introducing water in a sippy cup. Otherwise do you have flax? Maybe you could mix ground flax in with his food. Apple juice is supposed to be good too. Otherwise, just give him water when he eats if you aren't. Solids can do strange things to poop!

thanks. he has been drinking less water than he usually does (almost every time older bro drinks water this one wants some as well) but i figured nursing would take care of it. guess not. i'll try to get him more water tomorrow. and yeah, his homemade oat already has flax in it.

I discovered apple sauce can be constipating in my baby. Try giving pear sauce instead. Since I did that, no more hard poops.
