underwire/nursing bras

My dd is 14 months today. I work five days a week, and would really like to get some real bras... can I wear underwire now that bf is very well established? I'm really tired of those flimsy nursing bras, to be frank. My dd is bf very regularly still as she had feeding issues. I wear a 38e. Do you think I should get a nursing underwire (bravado has a nice one but it's expensive)? Can I get away with deptartment store bras, at least out of the house? I pump at work 2x a day if that matters. I just would like some less expensive sexy/cute bras. I think DH would approve too.

I think you can absolutely wear underwire, as long as it fits right. The problems happen when the wire is constricting breast tissue. Going to a specialty store and getting a proper fit is always a really good idea.

i did the same thing when dd was around the same age. the girls needed a little more support, and i needed something a liiiiiitle bit more sexy.

i got a nice, very supportive, lacy underwire bra that fit very well at motherhood.

i didn't invest in something that cost a ton, but it has worked very well for me.

good luck in your search! i have also heard that v. secret has some cute nursing bras (e.g. a little something in zebra stripe trimmed with hot pink lace - yeow!

I have always worn underwire bras, and didn't even wear nursing bras at all w/ds3.

I think that some women are more sensitive to the pressure of underwires but that you shouldn't assume you will be if you haven't had previous problems. Make sure it fits correctly and if you notice any problems you can switch back.

Happy bra shopping!

Ok now I have more questions... I've never had any problems with mastitis or anything like that, but in the very beginning I had oversupply. If I've never had an issue with an infection in the past, is it possible to have one now? Where do I go? I'd been sized at VS in the past, pre-nursing, but haven't been in a store in a while... online I only found a basic nursing bra. But, can I just wear a normal underwire bra now from anywhere or are there certain things I should avoid...?

I've worn underwire since my DD was about 4 months old. Just be sure to go to a place that has fitters, they told me the wire has to be far back under the arm. I have a large chest as well and I have to have my underwire!!

Steer clear of VS - try to find a place that has professional fitters (not a high school girl with a part time job!) you can try a place that has bridal undergarments. you are probably wearing the wrong size, and VS doesn't carry above a DD cup. i was wearing a 38 DD from VS and when i got my good bra (which is pricey, but SO worth it) i went to a 34 G....so that shows you the difference.

If you don't have a good fitter locally, try looking at breakoutbras.com. They're really knowledgeable, and they have a great page about getting the best bra fit.

I've worn underwire nursing bras since dd was mabye 5 mo old (now 15 mo). Nummies.com has a great soft cup underwire bra that is so great! I've worn it everyday for almost a year! I just finally broke down and bought a second underwire nursing bra. Wearing an underwire has never affected me at all, I did have mastitis once but it was before the underwire bra

Target has a very cute, very cheap (~$15) underwire nursing bra. Oh- here, I just found it on their website.
