thanks for posting it henriksmom, but it's not that one i was looking for.
she's been involved in one where the effect of too-fast growth was indicated as a problem for long term health. it's important because preemies can be so over-fed once they are taking enteral feeds, and many mums stop b'feeding as their baby is not keeping up on the charts, but in the long run, our lighter weight exclusively b'fed/ b'milk fed babies may well have a better outcome. one would hope so, really, no!?! but it's the pressure to gain faster that i want some research on if possible....

i'd like this, too. we got forcefed formula and the guilt trip they gave me made me so angry! but what could we do? they had a little pow wow and invited social services i'd like to change the practices up there, but how? i hate to know that other moms are being treated like they are abusive if they don't give in. ftr i had enough milk for 4 babies but we were told that gaining 1/2-1 oz/day was insufficient.

Bookcase,

That would be an interesting study. I definitely felt like my son needed to catch up. I felt like everyone was watching and it was difficult. He caught up very soon. At 38 weeks gestation, after 8 weeks in the hospital, he weighed almost 8 and a half pounds. At one year corrected he was 24 pounds.

They did add HMF to my breast milk but I think that he would have been a big boy. It took him a while to gain the first pound after his birth but then took off.

Can you post the study if you find it?
