How did they go over?

How did the recipients enjoy your holiday handiwork?

I made my son a puzzle. Actually I think that may have been the only thing I made him for Christmas. He gets my toys all the time though, so it's not a big deal about me making them. He really liked it though. I made two of my brothers pizza peels. They loved them since they are both huge pizza eaters. I made my dad toaster tongs (he loves toast, and our tongs broke a while ago). Anyway, my gifts were well received. I wish I had made more things, because I really enjoy giving stuff I made as presents. Next year I need to plan further in advance.

Really well! DD got a bunch of hand-made stuff, some by me, some by others.

She LOVED a bat knitted by a friend of mine. We did a craft exchange -- she knits, I sew. So I sent her some felt food, and she knitted a bat my DD had seen and loved. DD is sleeping with batty-batty-bat right now.

I got two handmade pet houses for her stuffed friends off etsy, and those were a big hit.

I sewed the Peter Rabbit family. She spent most of the morning asking which was which. Peter definitely got more attention than the other siblings, but that's what I expected. They were more there as accessories. I was surprised about how rough I noticed her being with them -- so far they've held up, and I'm hoping that continues! Oh, well, at least I know how to fix them.

I'll tell you, the one mainstream, big-box store item I bought her is so totally lame. This is very much a lesson for next year....

Aww, thanks for asking. I made my 14-month old dd a sack-like waldorf doll and she LOVED it. She spent of lot of time today cuddling it, then tucking her into the doll stroller and pushing it around the house.

I think handmade gifts are the best.

Thanks for sharing! I love your stories, everyone!

I think hand made gifts are best too!

My dd loved the dress I made for her. She's a bit to old for dolls and toys now. I'll have to enjoy the toy stories vicariously through your posts.

I made my daughter a mermaid tail. She wore it all morning!

I made my daughter a waldorf-inspired mermaid. She commented that "Santa sewed my doll!" Yeah, you can see Santa's stitches where the tail meets the body! LOL! The best was that she slept with the doll clutcher in her arm Christmas night. Ironically, a family friend who has retired to Turks and Caicos sent her a mermaid doll for Christmas! She loves the one from Santa better.

I made a few pieces of felt food for my kids and a puppet for each of my boys. The food went over great (they are asking for more which is always great ). They loved the puppets too. My only issue is that upon unwrapping of the black cat puppet that I made for ds2, he exclaimed "Batman!" I decided not to tell him that it was supposed to be a cat. Instead I let him think that my skills are so fabulous that I can just whip up a Batman puppet at any moment.

DSs superhero cape which I made for his birthday has been a big hit.

The Christmas gifts have not been such an instant hit, The puppet theatre has not been used at all and DS has not played with the eye spy bag much.

I'm not too worried, I seem to have children who take a while to warm up to new toys and I think both are things which will last several years.

On the plus side DS loves his tea cosy for his little tea pot. I made a full size one for myself and he asked for a little one and has played with it daily.

No pattern but I took some pics for you so you can see what I did and I'd be happy to answer any questions if you have any.

Here it is all layed out. And here it is on my daughter. It's pretty simple but it does the trick.
