An American girl doll dillema

Thread Starter
My DD wanted an American gilr doll for Christmas. We talked over and over that she probably would not get one b/c of Santa's budget and all the kids he has to get gifts for. I had her pick out other dolls on Target and she said she liked the "Our generation" dolls.
Santa brought the Our generation doll. DD opened it , screamed and sang, "An AMERICAN GIRL DOLL!!! Look Mommy it's Kirsten! Santa got it!"

So I said "wow" and "cool" and "Amazing" but should I have told her the truth? It says right on the package "our generation" and DD can read but I think she just wasn't even looking at the package.
I am worried that when she brings it somewhere someone may tell her it's not an American girl doll. Should I tell her the truth or just wait and see?

That's a tough spot to be in. I probably would have told her then and there, gently, "See honey, it's an Our Generation doll, like the ones we saw at Target. Isn't she great?" If she repeats that it's an American Girl doll, maybe you can say something like that? It sounds like she really loves her gift!

I would of gently told her it wasn't an American Girl Doll.

If she brings it up again, gently tell her.

You can be much nicer about it than an 8 or 9 year old girl who has an American girl doll and wants to be snooty

I would say "She's such a beautiful Our Generation doll, what a lucky girl you are!"

I have several AG dolls and an Our generation and I find them both to be very nice dolls. There is a slight difference in the hair, but I keep the OG girl's hair in braids. She always looks nice!

If she is ever around someone with a real American Girl doll, she will know the difference. The two boxes are completely different also so if she has seen a AG box there really is no way she was mistaken. Maybe she knows and is just pretending???

That would be my guess.
