elimination diet?

hi there
I had DS2 on 11/21, he was born at 34 weeks after I'd been on 2 weeks of bedrest with PPROM. He was 5lb 7oz at birth, and has really been growing well: up to 7lb 8oz in a month.

DS1 was born full term and at 2 months of age we figured out he had a milk and egg protein intolerance. We figured out the milk first, and after just a week of cutting it out in my diet, things greatly improved for him as far as fussiness goes.

Because of that, I've been on the alert looking for the same with with this LO. He has been really gassy, has mild reflux, and pain with gas/pooping at times so I decided to cut both egg & milk out to see if it improved things. The sad thing is I haven't really noticed any improvement. The doctor said the pain with gas/pooping as well as having a lot of gas has to do with him having an immature gut as well as growing so quickly, that it's just something he'll have to grow out of.

So with that all in mind, here's my question: have any of you found that doing an elimination diet has improved your LO's digestive issues? Moms who use formula, did you notice that your preemie had more digestive issues than a full termer? I don't mind cutting stuff out of my diet if it helps, but if it's more related to him being early than to what I'm eating I'd like to know before I go crazy cutting things out. I DID find out that broccoli/cauliflower are a big no-no, so I'm wondering if I should cut out beans as well.... anyways, all the speculation is driving me nuts and I'm contemplating doing the Dr.Sears elimination diet for a few weeks and seeing what I can add back in.

thanks for any and all input!

I've never had a full termer, but my twins didn't really have many digestive issues. They were on both formula and breastmilk. The only thing that I found they really reacted badly to was cabbage. I was sort of addicted to cole slaw and every time I ate it they would have tummy pain.

The only real issue they had was lots of intractible tummy bubbles, but that was more associated with bottlefeeding and was helped with simethicone drops.

I definitely think the elimination diet would be worth trying, and it won't cost you anything worse than a short time of very bland eating.

Congratulations on his growing so well.
