please help!

Im so thirsty all the time i feel like im living in the Sahara, and it gets worse when she starts nursing, so bad i can barely stand to sit still and not get up for a drink. it has been like this for some time but seems to be getting worse- dd is 16 months

my lips are dry, cracking, my mouth is dry, and i just feel sooooo dry
I do drink lots of water, with meals, when ever i think of it

any ideas if this might be related to something else? Any idea how much i should be drinking per day? ANY other mamas feel this?

I think it's 1.5 - 2 litres of water a day for how much to drink, I would check out diabetes if you're drinking alot all the time, it may have something to do with that. What's the air conditioning etc like with you, that can dry you out terribly too.

Put bottles of water around the house where you are likely to breastfeed. You should be able to stand up with a nursing toddler and walk over and get a bottle of water out of the fridge.

Nursing moms get thirsty! If you live somewhere cold the dry air of using the heater makes your mouth dry out.

Nursing takes a lot out of you, literally! That plus the dry air from heating in the winter can really take a toll quickly in my experience. I second the suggestion of keeping bottles of water near the spots where you typically nurse during the day, as well as by your bed at night. Nothing worse for me than waking up starving for water with nothing nearby! A good humidifier in your bedroom can really help a LOT, too.

Some research shows that most people need more water than they are drinking and more than the old 64 oz recommendation. If you take your weight in pounds, and divide by two, you get the number of ounces of water you should be drinking per day when you aren't nursing.
