In my church, uncut hair is a monastic thing. Monks and nuns never cut their hair once they have taken their vows. I know a few lay women who do it as well, but that is much less common.
I haven't cut my hair in about 10 years, but I'm getting ready to take a few inches off the bottom because of awful split ends from not trimming in the past 4 years. (it's actually getting shorter due to breakage)
I don't have particular religious reasons for keeping my hair long, but I can identify with people who do.
Hello another uncut mama here! My hair is down to my waist--- uncut (completely--no triming) for about 4 years now. I believe my hair is my *crowning glory* as it says in the bible.
I do not cut my hair for mostly religious reasons or that of my dd. I did recently have to loose 6 inches due to it being so unhealthy and it broke my heart since I cant get it to grow, curly that breaks and falls out.
I have learned that not trimming the dead/split ends causes a lot of other issues including loosing those 6 inches that it took me 10+ years to grow.
I stopped cutting (taking length off - still trim split ends but honestly if you keep blow-drying and other heat styling to a minimum and protect your hair by covering in the extreme temperatures you should never have more than 1/4in of split ends to trim every 4-6 months) my hair about 3 years ago as part of my larger project to find my true self. (Which was pretty religious for me )
