I really like all the comments made. Coming back to your family: it'll probably get better when (once / if) you add more children in the mix. Toddlers and preschoolers can usually be counted on attracting a good portion of people's attention.
And I still think you're doing a good job in treating BF as a "normal" thing - which is exactly what it is.

In those types of discussions, I've always come out with something along the lines of 'my child's comfort is more important to me than anyone else's', especially what what we're doing has absolutely no direct effect on other people.

At that point, they either have to concede the point or argue that what they think should be more important to me than my baby. Which is a leap into complete ridiculousness that most people aren't willing to take.
