Swim diaper question

I would really like to take my 8mo swimming at the local pool, but don't really have the $ to spend on a swim diaper at the moment. We use prefolds and covers, do you think I could get away with just using a cover and no prefold as a swim diaper? Has anyone ever done similar?

can your cover contain a poop? imo that's all it needs to do. and that's all the swim diapers we had really were.

I used a prorap newborn size for a swim diaper on my 12lb baby. You have to size down since there is no diaper. I'm pretty sure it would have worked better than the sposie swim diapers, but she never pooped while in it so I didn't get to really try it. If anyone is grossed out by it, remind them that the sposie ones don't hold ANY liquid either (learned this the hard way) and many places require plastic pants anyway (so they must be better).

We've been using a Bummis SWW the last 2 summers for a swim diaper. We have a specific cover we designated for swimming, since I'm sure the chlorine will negatively effect it over time. It has worked as well, if not better than disposable swim diapers did in the past-but I'm not sure how it ranks against resuable swim diapers. If/when she poops in it, I just take it off, clean her up, wash out the cover, and pop it back on her.

I also use my Bummi cover for a swim diaper. No one checks to see what she is wearing anyway. I know it would hold everything in better than the disposable swim diapers!
