I didn't put this in Natural Body Care, because I wanted to hear from everyone, even if they use more mainstream products.

My hair is long (more than 3/4 down my back), straight and fine. Oh, and I've got pp hair loss again

It's dry and not shiny. I stopped using Aveda a few years ago because of $$, but am tempted to go back, since my hair always looked fantastic when I used it.

If you love your hair care stuff, what do you use? Where do you buy it? I'm ready to give up my junk food treats for good hair stuff. Having yucky hair is not fun.

I'm really happy with Aveda products. I know that if I'm not buying drug store product, I'm actually saving money even though I spend more initially. I'm using less and not continually trying new things. I go to Aveda once a year, drop $200 or so and I'm set. If I have to go into the haircare product aisle at Target once a month I always find something I need to try. That then sits in my drawer and is used only once, a total waste of money.

The kids use Fructis brand and their hair always looks nice and shiny.

I have shorter hair right now, but I always seem to go back to Suave Sleek (or something like that) its in the orange bottle. I have also used the salon brand that it copies and it works just as well. I love it.

I've been using Biolage for almost 2 years, and it has been very worth the extra $$$. I buy it at Ulta when it's on sale (buy 2, get 2), and it lasts forever. Leaving Ulta with only the hair stuff I need is the really big problem...lol...especially now that they carry Benefit...

I cant say that i have a 100% favorite hair care type. I used to love Fructis but thats only when i wear my hair straight. When i want it curly, i used a different kind but i have yet to find a great moisturizer for my hair. i also have dandruff issues and i was using the Aveeno dandruff control but its not as effective as Id like.

I use anything that doesn't have sodium lauryl sulfate, etc. in them.

Wen (this is actually a cleansing conditioner)

John Masters

and this brand is carried in drugstores:

I also like Kiehls and Aveda.

I used to use Pantene, I found and really like The Aussie products. They smell great!

Pureology, it contains no sulfates. it is expensive, but i am a stylist so i get it for 50 percent off...either way, it is totally worth it.

I have waist-length, thick, wavy hair. The only product I use besides shampoo and conditioner (Pantene) is this. It's Aveda. I've tried other Aveda products and just don't like them. Nothing works like this fabulous little bottle.

I've used it for about 16 years. It makes my hair shiny and tames flyaways. I always get compliments about how shiny and healthy it is from hairdressers and complete strangers on the street. And the little bottle lasts me 2-3 months! I use a little on towel-dried hair. Then a bit more when it's mostly dry. Then a bit more once it's fully dry.

Nature's Gate Shampoos and Conditioners are just about the best non-salon ones out there, I think. All of them are wonderful!

The shampoo and conditioner I keep coming back to are Nexxus Therappe and Nexxus Humectress. I have long hair that leans toward dry, and they are soooo wonderfully moisturizing. I like the smell better than Nature's Gate products, too - Nexxus smells like coconuts. Therappe and Humectress are available at most grocery stores now, they used to be only at salons.

Moving to Natural Body Care for organization's sake

Please PM me with any questions, thanks!

My all-time favorite shampoo is Lamas organic wheatgrass. I have long, wavy hair. I got a bottle once on clearance at my local HFS, and I've made it last almost a year--just used a tiny bit each time. It smells so good and makes my hair really shiny. It's probably one of those "fake healthy" shampoos, but I just love it.

Thanks for the input mamas! Still not sure what to try, need to get a haircut and start fresh all the way around, I think. I'm taking notes from what you all have suggested

I've been using African Formula Let-it-grow for 15+ years, on and off (had trouble finding it for a few years), and it is the best thing I've found by far for my long, straight hair. Check out the ingredient list! This stuff is amazing (note, I use this alone....it cleans and conditions).

We discovered it at a health food store many years back, but haven't found it locally in years. We actually buy it from a site called smileherb.com (it seems to be down this morning, though). It's a pain having to order online, but worth it!
