Free knitting pattern for toddler legwarmers?

DD3 takes a gymnastics class and her gym is really cold. She can't wear socks since they make her feet slip off the equipment, and I've got tons of yarn laying around.

Can't seem to find a pattern for legwarmers for little kids, though. She's 3 1/2, but on the tall side. Any ideas?

Can you just measure her and go from there by knitting a swatch in the yarn you want with the size needles you want to work with? So, for instance, start knitting a swatch by casting on enough stitches to cover at least 5-6 inches, then knit up enough rows to be about 4-5 inches. Then lay a measuring tape across it and count how many stitches you knit per inch. Then measure dd's leg circumference at the top and bottom. I'd start at the top/largest part of her leg and knit down...doing a few decreases as you get towards the middle/bottom by knitting two together. Do you know how to work on double pointed needles or circular needles because knitting these in the round would be easy if you do.

Yeah, I do understand DPN's, circulars, either by using two circs or Magic Loop. I prefer Magic Loop only because when I use DPNs I tend to feel like I'm wrangling a drunken, belligerent octopus.

You're right, I could absolutely just make up a pattern, but am suffering from severe Pregnancy Brain and am having a hard time remembering to turn off the stove at the moment.

My Google Fu failed me and I was hoping someone had some little kid specific patterns handy.

If she had any, absolutely.

That pattern looks great, thanks!

I understand the brain fog fully!

I found this site: http://www.knittingpatterncentral.co...legwarmers.php

I also love the idea of hemming some knee highs!

Yep! I have several sizes. Love them. They're especially nice in the smaller sizes for socks.

This is both a hilarious and amazingly accurate description of knitting with DPNs.

You could just use a top-down sock pattern you love and never do the heel & foot----just decrease at the bottom or put in some ribbing.

Oh duh! That's brilliant!

Ugh. Seriously, pregnancy brain kills me every time.

And thanks, Fujiko. It's nice to be thought of as funny sometimes.
