My 16 week old DS is usually not a problem to nurse but he started last night nursing until the milk comes down, then unlatch himself. Then, he would get back on, eat for 30 sec.-1 min., unlatch himself and scream bloody murder. Other times he will unlatch and look at the Christmas tree, the ceiling fan, or smile and coo at me. This has continued through today and I'm beginning to get frustrated. He is obviously getting enough (somehow!) b/c his diaper output hasn't slowed down at all. I'm just concerned that he's in pain or reflux maybe? Any suggestions?

Could he be teething? My first was teething already at 3.5 months. If it's just one day I wouldn't worry too much. It could be any number of things such as teething, a cold or ear infection coming on, a slow down in growth, something you ate giving him a tummy ache, etc. How's he doing today?

It could be gas. Try burping him more often. Hopefully that will help, but try not to worry as long as he's getting enough. As for the getting distracted.... they all do that.

my son does this as well, and it normally means he has a burp. He'll scream bloody murder until he burps, too, so it takes a while to figure out that's what it is.

Glad to hear things are improving. My little guy used to have to burp only minutes into a feeding. It was maddening. I had to pump and feed him since he wouldn't nurse and I learned to burp him after every ounce which seemed crazy to me but he really needed that. I hope things continue to improve.
