ideas for using up extra yarn?

Hello knitting mamas! I have several big boxes of leftover yarn that I would like to use up. Some are several skeins of of the same kind, some just one. Anyone have any fun projects for using up leftovers? I have already made a bunch of hats, mittens, scarves & cowls for the holidays! Doll clothes might work. I could do washcloths, but don't really need them. I am an advanced beginner/intermediate knitter BTW. TIA.

My grandmother made my brother and me a multi-coloured blanket each for our beds. Mine is crotcheted squares, his is stripes. Knitted squares/stripes would work too but you might have to back it with flannel or something to give it more weight/structure.

If you don't have enough for a full size blanket maybe a cot or pram blanket?

are they wool? if so, you could do some cute patchwork longies or soakers (Karen at Kool Sheep did the best ones I've ever seen: http://www.koolsheepsoakers.com/kool...hp?id_gall=137 and http://www.koolsheepsoakers.com/kool...php?id_gall=53)

You could also do a patchwork blanket

if they are wool, how about some dryer balls? tied ends wouldn't matter on anything but the outer layer or two i'd think...

Peace+Hope, those dryer balls look really cute - but forgive my cluelessness, what is their purpose?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Lots of great ideas!

Dryer balls are instead of using dryer sheets! I have some felt balls that are toys for DS and keep meaning to try the dryer balls.

I haven't used wool dryer balls but the plastic ones I got last Christmas are great. They take away static cling AND shorten drying time.

My 2 cents is to make a rockin' patchwork blanket, then the left overs from that could be dryer balls!

I am so going to try this! I hate static, but hate dryer sheets even worse.

I got a great book for Christmas called One Skein Wonders. It's full of all kinds of cool things that can be made out of a small amount of yarn. Everything is in there, from shawls to felted bags. I'm having a lot of fun with it.
