Don't know what to do- X posted

I am losing my mind!!!! I have a 10.5 month old daughter, A, and am 22 weeks pregnant. I exclusively breastfeed A, but she is also very into food and likes to eat everything!

The problem we are having is she is very clingy, and wants to nurse constantly. She is okay during the day, she has gotten to the point where she will play, and socialize without the boob. But at night it is getting to be too much. For the past two months she has wanted to nurse the entire night. She will nurse for 30-60 minute, then let go, I will roll over to sleep and she will be up to nurse again between 10-20 minutes later. ALL NIGHT LONG. I am exhausted, and not getting any sleep. I can't sleep while she is nursing because she will either bite me when she falls asleep or pinch me throughout the night.

Also, if she doesn't get to nurse immediately she screams, and throws a complete fit by throwing herself backwards, and arching her back. She is the most demanding child I have ever met!

To be fair she has been teething and sick lately, but this is going on much longer than any of that. About once per week she will sleep 1.5-2 hours straight, until about 5 am, at which point she will start with the constant nursing and waking cycle.

I am looking for any advice as to how to get her into a normal sleep pattern. I am going back to school later this month and need some sleep, not to mention I am not feeling well being pregnant with no sleep.

I'm not an advocate of night weaning in normal circumstances. Your situation is not normal. I think I read how to night wean at askdrsears.com. It seems essential for your health that you do this.

I used Dr. Jay Gordon's nightweaning method at 10.5 months, and it helped tremendously. He says not to do it until 12 months, but I was desperate, and I'm glad I did it when I did. Of course, DS ended up going through some major teething -- all 4 molars and al 4 canines came in w/in the span of about a month and a half -- so we regressed. He's 15 months now, and I've just re-nightweaned, and we're getting much, much better sleep.
