Anodized bakeware - What is this?

For Christmas I asked for a muffin pan that was not aluminum, not Teflon, not silicone, and would not leach lead or other bad stuff. I got a Wilton muffin pan. It looks like it's coated. My father said it's anodized although it doesn't mention it anywhere on the package (really just cardboard wrapped around it). It just says "Non-stick" I'm still trying to figure out what it is and how it's made.

Is it safe? Does it leach? Anything else I should know about it?

If you google, you can find a lot of info. about it. Basically it is anodized aluminum. It is supposed to be safe, although there is some speculation as to whether the anodization process can break down over time, unveiling the aluminum. It is also supposed to be non-stick. I've never tried it, but I know Calphalon makes a set.

Well I looked up the pans on the Wilton website and they appear to be steel coated with non-stick. The Betty Crocker cookie sheet I got also appears to be coated with non-stick.

Now to figure out how to get rid of them without offending my parents. Who already think that not using non-stick is stupid to begin with. And who bring their own paper towels to my house when they visit.

If it is nonstick - then it is telfon. Anadozied aluminum isn't nonstick (its actually pretty sticky). I'd just take them in and exchange them for something you can use and not discuss it with your parents.

I also received FOUR of these pans (from two completely unrelated sources) this season. I don't understand why, because I'm already stocked up with pans that are teflon free....???

Anyway, I plan to take two of them back (still in original packaging) but the kids ripped the packaging off of the other two so I'm kind of stuck with them. I'm thinking freecycle?
