This is our first year hsing and it is going really well. One of the many reasons we decided to homeschool is that my now 7th grader tends to grasp math well and quickly and was frusterated that he had to stay with the class that, as you know, many struggle with math so they move slowly. We started out with Aleks math online and he has been loving it. He loves that he doesn't have to write so much and that he can move at his own pace. Which is great! Every so often they do an assessment and he is 75% done with Pre-Algebra. However, I wasn't using the quiz option until recently. Well, I just figured out how to assign a quiz for him which randomly makes up a quiz of things he has learned. And he is doing horrible on the quizzes. He failed the first one! Since then I have done 3 more and the best he has done is 75%. Now I watch the things he learns and I know that a lot of it will not go into long term memory. Does anyone remember doing bar and whisker graphs? But how long should I expect him to retain the information he's learning? Should I change his math curriculum to a book format because he might retain the info a little better even though he will detest doing it? I could really use some advice. We are on christmas break now, and would like to feel good about where we're at in math when we start up again.
Thanks!
Thanks!
