Co-Sleeping Basic Questions from a Newbie

We're expecting our first in April, and we're looking into co-sleepers, bassinets, humanity bolsters, etc. I think I'm liking the idea of the little one in bed with us, though it might get cramped in a Queen and we can't afford to upgrade to a larger bed. The Arms Reach sounds good but some posters haven't liked it for several reasons, and I don't really want to buy something we won't use. So my instinct is to just get the humanity bolster (or something similar) for the edge of the bed. But, do I need to get a bassinet or something for nap time? Can you let a newborn nap in your bed by themselves? I've heard people get a pack n play (I'm assuming for play?) that doubles as a nap location? What other options do I have here? Any advice on co-sleeping in general is appreciated! TIA!

We had a queen size bed with baby #1 and a king when baby 2 came along. I put siderails on each side and pillows around them and just let them nap in bed. I've heard it's not a good idea, but we did alright with it.

You could get a Moses basket.

Do a google search of James McKenna co-sleeping. He's got some great info.

We have an Arms Reach co-sleeper and my DS has only slept in it twice. It makes for a very nice catch all place. Right now it holds a box of kleenex, the breast pump, several books, some spit up rags, etc. You get the idea. Meanwhile baby sleeps between us in our Queen size bed. I have read that it isn't safe to have the baby between mom and dad, but so far it works best for us.

Prior to my DS being born, I researched quite a few things and already had definite ideas about co-sleeping, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, etc. And quite frankly, you just don't know what you're going to do and how you're going to feel about it all until the baby is there and you're in the midst of it all. But, completely off-topic but I have to say it anyway, it is - by far! - the best experience I've ever had!
