Is glycerin soap natural?

kinda a dumb question but is glycerin soap considered "natural"? Whole foods 365 carries a line of glycerin soap which we have had great luck with They have several kinds but the one we get is fragrance free and has a few EO in it. Dr. Bronners seems to be a little drying on our skin.

I don't "know" officially, but I buy glycerine soap from a natural eco online shop. I also prefer it as it's not as drying and I can wash my face with it, but not other types of natural soap.

You'll have to read the ingredients. Some glycerin soap is more natural than others. Some are nothing but chemicals.

I went and looked at the 365 glycerin soap ingredients and they look great to me.
Ingredients: Saponified Coconut and/or Palm oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Olive Oil, Aloe, Chlorophyll, Fragrance & Essential Oil.

Glycerin soap can be made naturally but just like any soap some companies might use additives.

The clear glycerin soap is made from adding alcohol to the soap..usually they add additional glycerin to it as well.

In case anyone is thinking of dumping alcohol into soap to make clear soap I would recommend the book Making Transparent Soap by Catherine Failor. Don't just try to do it without clear instructions AND soapmaking experience or you will probably catch your kitchen on fire.

"Fragrance" is not a natural ingredient, and is so ambiguous that it could be something completely harmless, or very harmful - there's no way to know.

I'm trying to avoid any products containing "fragrance" as it's likely that those fragrances contain phthalates. Phthalates are used to give fragrance staying-power (think: dryer sheets, scented lotions, scented plastic baby dolls, etc.)

Links below have more info on phthalates.
