Hotel beds

We're going on a 2-night trip this weekend & haven't slept anywhere but our mattress on the floor since DS started crawling. I'm worried about the height of the hotel bed... They are always so high... DS has been sleeping pretty still lately but he has times where he "sleep crawls" for a night or two and I'm worried he'll fall off the bed!! I tried putting him on the couch & showing him how to get off feet first and he kept trying to dive off instead so now I'm even more nervous. I guess I can sleep on the floor if necessary, but just wondering if anyone has some more comfy creative solution!! We were also thinking of sleeping sideways on the bed so DS would be between me & the headboard but when he sleep-crawls he crawls up near our heads so then he'd fall still. I can try to keep him between me & DH but he usually wakes so often to eat that I'm always switching sides.

Can you take a side rail with you?

Will there be an armchair in the room? If so, you can position that next to the bed. You can call the hotel and ask if they have a chair in the room (or look at a pic of the rooms online).

Maybe ask for a cot and put the mattress from the cot on the floor next to the bed with some pillows on top just in case he does fall.

Or, you can just take the mattress off of the bed and put it on the floor.

We don't have a side rail (and wouldn't want to buy one for only 2 days)

I'm not sure about the chair because the way we have to book the room, they don't guarantee requests. But, I do like your idea of putting a cot mattress (or maybe even some extra bedding?) on the floor beside the bed... Though I'd still probably be up all night making sure he didn't fall lol. Maybe I'm too paranoid.

I love the idea of moving the mattress onto the floor but I'm not sure there will be room, I guess we'll have to have a few ideas in mind & see what works best when we get there.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I have moved a hotel bed up against the wall before. It's a bit hard to do, since the beds are REALLY heavy generally, but it's possible. Usually there's still a bit of room between the bed and the wall, but I pile all those extra hotel pillows in the opening. It works pretty well. I think DD has actually fallen off once onto all the pillows...can't really remember now so it must not have been too traumatic.

Thanks, that's another good option!! I feel better already just having some options to try once we're there. Although I just heard my grandfather is in the hospital again so I don't know if we'll end up canceling the trip Thanks for the suggestions though!

We have also just pushed the bed up against the wall, and then put DD next to the wall and me next to her. In one case, when the bed wouldn't move but the distance wasn't too great (just a couple of inches), we just pushed the mattress up against the wall, leaving the bedframe in place.

If you ask for a cot, you can use that as a side rail, just put it next to the bed, and that'll stop him from falling off.

My husband takes the mattress down and we all sleep on the floor.

We skip room service and put everything back before we leave.

You could ask for extra towels or blankets and roll those up like a big hotdog and stick them under the sheets at the edge of the bed. We used to do that at home until our girls got the hang of not rolling out of bed. Put pillows or a cot on the floor still just in case, but the towel/blanket roll worked very well for us.
