Soooooo, happy....been lurking during my application and testing process, just got the word that I passed both parts of the exam! Doing a happy dance here. *L* Now, the big question? How long does it take to start working? And how long after you started did you see your first paycheck? I have seen various posts, but if I work all of November, would I likely see my first deposit in December or January? Very curious...

Congratulation Chickamomminy! I'm interested to hear when you start working. I have applied and the 1st part of my test should be emailed to me by Saturday. I am nervous. Did it really take 10 hours?

Without going into too many details, because of the ND clause, I did spend a lot of hours studying (probably 7ish total). I read the guidelines, then went back and highlighted them, and went over them a third time and outlined them on separate paper (I REALLY wanted this job, and was leaving nothing to chance, even though it was an open book test). Most everything on the theoretical exam is covered in the guidelines. So, putting in the time really helped. Plus, it will definitely help you with the ratings once you get to the practical exam! It seems confusing at first, and my first couple of questions (when I got to the practical exam) almost made me want to cry...lol...but, once I got the hang of it, it got a lot better.

So, I guess, between studying and taking the tests, it was almost 10 hours *total* for me. But, I did not do it all at one time. Actually, last weekend I did not even have a chance to look at the stuff. Starting out so late, I was afraid I would be overwhelmed; but once it started to make sense, things moved along at a nice, even pace.

Good luck!

I started pretty much right away after I had gotten all the login info and given them my banking info. Probably the day after finding out I'd passed the test.

hmmm... I got the pass notice on Friday, then the info to log in (and bank info) just yesterday. So I guess I'll try to be patient.

Once you've logged in and given them everything they ask for, you ought to be able to just go ahead and start working, as long as you have tasks available.

My congrats email said that a welcome email would be coming, telling me how to report time, what's expected of new raters, etc. I haven't gotten that yet. I only got an email telling me how to upload my W-9. Maybe I missed something. eta: I just checked, and I can get into the hub and I have an acquire new task button... but I'm afraid to start that without knowing how to record my time.

Pretty much all the info you need is on the rater portal - there are sections about entering time, etc. But maybe they haven't even sent you the link to the portal yet? It's funny that different people seem to have such different experiences. I got all the email info the same day I got notification that I passed the test.

HA- I spoke too soon. I just got the email 5 minutes ago. Yay! Now I can start working!

I just applied for this last week, but haven't heard anything back yet. I really hope I get it, or at least the opportunity to take the test. I am now starting to get paranoid that they don't want me because I didn't finish my college degree nor am I currently working on it. Is this the case with anyone else who got hired, or all you all college graduates? Do you think it makes a difference?
Fitrah, I doubt that's it. Technically I'm not even a high school graduate additionally I've been out of the workforce for 14 years and I still was hired. Lots of people waited weeks or even months before they heard anything.

Couple questions for you seasoned pros out there  :)

- How often do you get feedback on your work?  I've been working for a couple weeks now, and I haven't heard anything or gotten any reviews back yet.  Should I be worried, or is this a good sign?

- I like the work.... but it's kind of tedious.  My mind starts wandering after about 20 minutes, and my eyes start glossing over soon after.  It's a challenge for me to work more than an hour straight.  Any tips for keeping your mind in the game, working longer shifts?  Ideally, I'd like to work about an hour every morning, and 2 hours every evening after DP gets home.  But it's really hard for me to stay focused that long.

eta:  btw- thanks again to everyone for all the great information in this thread.  This job came just in time for us- we really needed the extra income, and my first check will be just in time for us to pay our car insurance.  Yay for working at home!!

Hi changingseasons, congrats on starting with Lionbridge! I'm almost through my third month as a rater. In general it seems that 'no news is good news". You should receive an email when your hours for the month are approved, comments on your productivity will be included then.

I find working just until my eyes start glazing over, then taking a break and continuing later to work best for for me.

You get different types of quality feedback on the portal (you should see links for them, but yours probably don't show anything yet.)  They change each of those once a month.  Other than that, you don't normally hear anything.

I don't normally work more than an hour straight, either.  Often just 20 minutes at a time.  If I'm starting to get bored or unfocused, I find it helps to mix up the task types, if I have a choice of types.  (I only got one type for my whole first month, so you may not have a choice yet.)  Also, there's one task type that doesn't require too much focus, and I may just do a bunch of those if my brain is feeling fuzzy and that type is available.  (Otherwise, I tend to pick different types that are a little more interesting.)

Thanks guys.  I was thinking that the timesheet instructions said that hours were approved as the days were locked each week, but I can't get back into the instructions to check.  If it's only once a month, then I can stop worrying.  :)
