The Spring schedule looks amazing! They have a new version of Emma by Jane Austen starting in late January! Check it out!

Anyone watching Cranford on PBS right now? It's a repeat but it's fantastic!!

Some of the best TV available! Cranford isn't my thing, though I did watch a couple of episodes. Anything with Judi Dentch, Imelda Staunton and Michael Gambon and the rest of that talented cast was worth a look. I'll definitely check out Emma. I've never read Northanger Abbey but I saw that most recent version and was surprised by what a fun story it was.

Dh and I watched an episode of Sharpe's Rifles after Lord of the Rings came out. Eh. It was OK.

Thanks!

ooh nice. I loved Cranford. I haven't been watching the repeats though. Looking forward to the Return to Cranford and the new Emma. I also can't wait for the new episode's of Mystery's Inspector Lewis. I have a huge crush on Laurence Fox (AKA Det. Srgt James Hathaway)

Ah! I love Hathaway, too. I'm so glad I have that show a chance. I refused to watch for years, but must have been bored enough one day and-- oh my gosh, so good!

So they did all the new Austen last year or so, and now a new Emma? Cool. OOOHHH It's Romola Garai?!! Very cool.

I watched Cranford. It was my second time watching it on PBS. They had it on about a year ago. I'm a sucker for such period pieces and anything with Dame Judy Dench, I have to watch. DH jokingly rolled his eyeballs and said "you know they use chamber pots, don't you? You don't want to live in that era."

This does look like it's going to be a very exciting season on PBS.

So, is anyone watching Emma?

This is my favorite Austen novel and I am loving this version! I did not think I would, at first, but I am. This week's was just lovely. The balls are some of my favorite scenes from Jane Austen stories and the grand ball and all it's nuances and music and looks and Knightley asking Harriet to dance! It was so well done--from the decor to the music to the choreography to the cinematography & editing. Just so well executed.

Who is that playing Mr. Elton and why does he look so familiar? The actor playing Knightley played Edmund in Mansfield Park. I like him very much but he feels young to play Knightley, maybe because I keep thinking how much he looks like Edmund! He's pulling it off very well, though.

Mr Elton is Blake Ritson who played Edmund in the Mansfield Park adaptation with Billie Piper (2007?). He's dreamy.

I usually TIVO a whole series and watch it at once, or three nights in a row. this time I made the mistake of watching the first in the three part series the day after episode two aired. So of course I had to watch episode two right away and now I'm waiting the long week until tomorrow night when the final episode of Emma airs.

I missed the 2nd half of Return to Cranford. I like Emma! I re-read it the last time Masterpiece did Jane Austen (2 years ago) and I really, really loved it. Mr. Knightley is dreamy, although he seems a bit young to be Mr. Knightley. I'm looking forward to seeing Persuasion again.

I've been saving them up so I can have an Emma binge once all three air. I'll probably have to save them til next weekend (long weekend). I should have DVR'd them downstairs where I could have them on with DD around... I would totally be okay w/ her seeing some Emma. Oh well! I can snuggle up with her some night when she conks at 6pm and indugle in delicious Knightly goodness. I'm going to have a hard time not seeing him as Eli Stone for the first bit I bet. I couldn't believe it was him as Byron!

Loving this Emma too. My favorite adaptation so far. Mr Elton looks familiar to me too, and I don't think I saw that version of Mansfield Park. I imdb-ed him, but he hadn't been in anything I'd seen.

It's a very good adaptation. I'm really enjoying it. I think the lead actress really captured Emma's personality very well. And Mr. Knightley is great.

fingers crossed the kids will crash out before I do so I can watch the final episode of Emma tonight.

bumping. I finally watched The Diary of Anne Frank and Small Island off the TIVO this month. Both of which I loved. Now on the Mystery. I have a couple Miss Marples saved to watch. I'm really looking forward to some new Inspector Lewis, I have the hots for Laurence Fox.

I couldn't get through Anne Frank. Just too devastating, I was crying from the get-go.

Small Island I knew nothing about, it was very good and turned out pretty positive, which was nice.

Waiting for the new Marple, although some haven't been as good as they might be... it just makes me want to get out the books again. They change so much, randomly. I'm just upset they said it was a new one the other week, and just re-ran Chimneys... and since it said it was new, at the last second, it recorded instead of something else we really wanted to see.

Emma was SO GOOD. They captured the book so well, especially Emma and Knightly and all those themes. The best adaptation of it I've seen! My old college lit prof must love it (she hated versions that changed things from the book ).
