Gbs

Any tips for passing it?

I failed last time, and was admitted for 2 days. Gave birth in a birth center, but was in the hospital for 2 days, and now with the new H1N1 guidelines, I will not be able to see the kids for 2 days, which will bum me out. I have talked about early discharge, and will take a class in January, that they require.

TIA

Interested to hear the answer to this also...I have my GBS test next week! I also was + with both my others, and stayed 2 days at the hospital. My midwives did say that since I tend to have fast labors and my bag of waters did not break till late in labor that the risk to the baby is greatly reduced.

I'm confused.. the hospital would keep your baby hostage for 48 hours if you have GBS because they're worried about H1N1, even though one is a bacteria, one is a virus, and they're totally and completely unrelated?
How can that be legal?
Are there any other hospitals within reasonable driving distance?

As far as passing the GBS test, I asked my holistic family doc what I could do to avoid getting GBS, and she said Oregamax might help, but that she'd have to get back to me on it's safety during pregnancy. It might be worth looking into?

Good luck!

Strep is something that is always in your system, but keeping your immune system boosted will keep it down.

No, I think what she meant was that her older children are not allowed to visit the hospital due to H1N1.

Oh, okay. Thanks for clearing that up.
I have heard of hospitals not letting mothers see their babes for 48 hours if the mother has any flu symptoms due to H1N1 fears (which I also think sounds extreme), and I guess I just had that on the brain.

Thanks for the replies.
Laughingfox, I am concerned about not seeing my older children for 2 days, and consequently my dh too.
I do not sleep AT ALL after giving birth, I am too jacked up, so I am hoping to be able to go home, relax with my family and not answer the door for 2 weeks!
I spoke to my mw about it, they are hoping that the no children under 18 restrictions will be lifted by March.

I cannot believe that they would keep the baby away from the mother if they have h1n1 symptoms. Would bf not help protect the baby, or is the mum pumping?

I don't know about the feeding specifics. It's something I've heard about from other mommas on this board, but not in great detail.
Certainly depriving a newborn of colostrum can't possibly be a good thing as far as health and immunity are concerned, but some places don't really consider logic when making policy decisions. :/

You can try treating yourself at home before testing just in case you have it. That way you will test neg.
I haven't taking the test yet, but my MW's protocol is to have me do a sitz bath of tea tree oil and herbs before testing. I'm not sure which herbs she uses(she will be bringing nit in 2 wks).
Here's what I've found on the net
