Deep 'gashes' in her back?? (Pocket diaper question)

Is this 'normal'?

I am using One Size Fuzzi Bunz on my 5 week old daughter. I have tweaked the elastic several times, specifically in the waist. When I have the settings on a '3' per the guidelines, the waist elastic leaves some serious indentations in her back from the elastic being so snug. I mean, bright red and deep 'grooves', for a lack of a better term.

Is this normal with a pocket diaper? When I loosen them up to the '2' setting (that you're only supposed to use when they're over 30 lbs, just for reference!) they STILL do that, just not *quite* as bad, but it still makes it too loose in the front.

I don't know if this is a 'bad fit' of diaper for her or if this is normal. It looks painful to me, but she's obviously not old enough to let me know it.

I don't know if they're "supposed" to do that - I'm guessing not - but we have the same problem with that diaper. Drives me a bit batty, although ours doesn't sound as bad as yours. I sometimes loosen the elastic off as much as possible around the waist, and then do the front up pretty tight, and seem to get a bit less of a groove. We only use these at night, and I've actually mostly resorted to loose elastic and loose snapping, which means the diaper isn't very snug/secure, but basically eliminates the grooves. At five weeks though, you've got the poop issue...
Any chance you could switch to something else until she establishes a less frequent pooping routine? Kind of defeats the purpose of one size diapers though. Hunh. Have you tried writing to FuzziBunz?

The PUL cover is exposed to her skin, it's gripping her skin and folding it up as with the elastic and plasticy covering. Here's my advice-after you get the diaper on her, turn her over and reach in and grab that flannel flap where you stuff the diaper and pull it up til it's sticking out-like you're giving her a wedgie. Sounds weird but that was the best visual description I could think of -it doesn't really wedgie them...(my son's sticks out the top a couple inches after I "wedgie" him) it will stay in place and work just as well without the red "owie." We've used FB's since birth and son is now 19 mo old FWIW. I adore my FB's!

Hope that helps you keep and love them
