plugged duct or mastitis?

I'm nursing my second DD, she's 6 months old, and I've never had either before so I'm just not sure.

We were traveling, and the day of our long drive my DD nursed less, which I thought caused the plugged duct. I felt a small lump, treated it with massage and heat and it went away. But this morning I still feel tenderness kind of higher up on the breast. I haven't had a fever, but I feel a little achy. Should I continue to treat with heat and massage? I'm out of town so I won't be able to see my MW at least until next week. Thanks!

thanks! that site was very helpful. Seems like it is just a plugged duct - hopefully it will clear soon!

I just got over Mastitis and it gave me severe shaking, and a 102 fever for 48 hours (with Advil).....so hopefully it's just a plugged duct! Sounds like it is....

If it's mastitis, you'll likely end up w/a pretty high fever pretty quickly. It really sucks, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone! Hopefully you're just dealing w/a plugged duct.
