little things with big impacts

I have been in this apartment for almost three years. This whole time I have been meaning to hang a shade or curtain above my kitchen sink. I finally did it yesterday. Found wooden blinds, perfect fit, at Ikea for less then 20$. Took 5 minutes to hang. It changed my whole kitchen! I can't believe how much warmer and more "together" it made the room! I am thrilled. DH has off all week and I am trying to think of all the other little projects I have been meaning to get to. Or have not even thought of before. Small touches that can really bring the place together. What have you dones latley that took little time and/or money and made an impact.

I've been keeping fresh flowers near all the sinks---kitchen and 2 bathrooms. They really make me smile.

We're still settling into our home that needs plenty of work. Some things are more important while others have taken the back burner.

Like a stove exhaust fan = to be done "someday". There's nothing over the stove. No fan, no cabinets, no shelf, nothing. Looked very bare. I framed some scrap material in 5 embroidery hoops and hung them over the stove in a pattern. Looks so much more bright and cheery. That end of the kitchen was just green and white without any accent colour. Even DH (who doesn't notice this type of thing as much) commented on how great it looks.

ETA: Total cost= $4.

Lamps. I got into The Nester blog and added some little lamps to places I hadn't thought of--kitchen counter, hallway, shelf--and it's really cozied up the place.

I redid my kitchen chairs. Sanded, painted, and reupholstered them. Not hard, but took some time. (and the paint on my hands and feet will NOT wear off yet! )

damage on chairs (before) worn/stained fabric and chipped paint

Check out the monkeys on the new fabric!

I have to admit, I have had the fabric sitting around for quite some time, and I somehow thought the leaves/foliage were greener than they are, but I love it as is!
