Milk Strike...okay?

Hi All,

Our 21 month old daughter refuses to drink milk from a cup. She is still breastfed but was also drinking whole milk from a bottle. We wanted to phase out the bottle and so we have switched to a cup, as of Christmas Eve. She drank milk out of the new cup the first day and I thought it was a SUCCESS! But now she absolutely refuses. Should I be worried? I tried putting a little chocolate in the milk and that didn't sweeten the deal at all for her - no luck! Should I try to give her yogurt instead and say goodbye to milk? Give the bottle back? Your advice is much appreciated.

My breastfed son didn't drink any cow's milk until after 2 years, totally unneeded if they get enough breastmilk. Even if they don't nurse much anymore you can replace cow's milk with a balanced diet and maybe some good bone broth (and cheese and yogurt if they like those).

My breast-fed 21-month-old DD doesn't drink milk. She has raw yogurt or cheese a few times per week. We are making an active choice to not drink milk as a beverage.

my 14 mo old ds (so little younger but oh well) doesn't drink milk other than "boo" except for if I use it in a smoothie (maybe a couple times a week?) or the rare instance tonight the big kids wanted hot chocolate and he was begging so he shared a few sips.

My 25-month-old still won't touch milk (still breastfeeding lots, though). She eats yogurt and cheese, so I hope it will be OK, and that she'll consider milk once she's closer to weaned (soon, I hope!).

There are many, many children who don't consume milk products and still grow to be happy, healthy adults. Although milk can be a convenient way to get protein, fats, and some calcium, it's not necessary for good health.
