Fabric Softener w/ other laundry??

Thread Starter
I know about the issues w/ dryer sheets causing build up, so we haven't used those in over a year. But our clothes/sheets are stiff and pilly. It could be hard water, but I'm considering using fabric softener in the wash.

Would that cause a problem w/ other laundry? I won't use it w/ the dipes, of course. Anyone have any suggestions for a good fabric softener to use? I don't like anything scented, so I don't even know if it's possible to get a FS that's not scented.

TIA.

I don't know about pillie, but wool dryer balls are freakin phenomenal! They also have "natural" softners, but I'm allergic to about everything so I haven't looked into them too much.

Ecover seems ok. I used about half what the label recommended. I was concerned about fabric softener getting on my dipes in the wash too tho, so I switched completely to using vinegar in the rinse with my regular laundry. That in combination with dryer balls works great. (Vinegar works well as a fabric softener because it helps rinse out any detergent residue, however don't use it with any dipe products made with PUL fabric because the vinegar will cause the PUL to separate.)

I use Ecover on everything, diapers, regular laundry, etc. It just makes it easier. I've never had any repelling issues (after 3+ months of use) and it works well. I especially like that my clothes don't feel coated....just soft!
