My 9 month has fallen off growth chart. What would you do? - Page 2

We were on the verge of Henry being diagnosed FTT. And it was to the point where I was quite concerned at how skinny he was. My daughter was always thin but not THAT thin. Anyhow, thanks to this thread, the kellymom food fat chart, etc., when he started grabbing food and opening his mouth, I realized he wanted food. I feel good about my decision, and he is filling out a bit. That is a GOOD thing. Supplementing with formula would be impossible as he won't take a pacifier, bottle, or anything like that. So this is working really well. Adding olive oil or coconut oil to the solids he is eating. Thanks for bringing this up and for everyone giving their input

i wanted to thank everyone for there support and input. since my first posting, my little one went to an ND and she thought that my little one has a food allergy/sensitivity. so i am following her plan. at the end of the week, we are going to a pediatric allergy specialist.

Kailey's mom: thank you for that avocado smoothie. i am trying my little one on avocado in the next few days.

my little one is doing well with his increase in food, 3 meals (1T quinoa + 1T veg/fruit + 1/2 teaspoon olive oil) and 3 snacks although we only manage to fit in 2 snacks with his napping. although, he is barely nursing during the day, only a few minutes at a time. he nurses at 7:30 pm, through the night and at 9 am. i ended up pumping today around 3 pm to keep supply up.

he have tried him on goat's milk yogurt for the last 6 days. he spit up once last night and he spit up twice today. i was thinking it was from the goat's milk yogurt (late reaction) but then i remembered that i bought some gum drops at the grocery store last night in a weak moment. looking closely on the package today i noticed that it is produced in a plant that produces products with milk, wheat, soy and nuts. to be on the safe side, i'll be doing goat's milk yogurt a few more days.

he seems to be a little gassy lately and needs a lot of comfort so I am not ruling out any GI issues, maybe reflux. any advise / experience with reflux in infants??

Have you considered tongue tie issues? Perhaps he has a hard time nursing. I only know a little about this but there are threads here about tongue tie. It can affect the whole digestive system. A cranio sacral therapist would help alleviate issues with this.

I don't know how much money you have to throw at the problem, but try different natural health practitioners. I saw several and each one has helped in a different way. BioSet, chiropractor, Cranio sacral, homeopath, accupuncture...

You have gotten some good advice about feeding. But the best advice, is to love your baby every minute and enjoy this time! My first had allergy issues and every time I looked at him I thought about the 'problem' and how to fix it. I cannot say that I really enjoyed all the steps of his development.

Aside from that, I am feeling a little down on myself. I just did not associate all he was going through with a food allergy, his 2 month cough had me on a different search.
I don't know whar charts your doctor is using, have you tried plotting on the WHO charts?

DD was weighed today, 14lb10oz, she's about 7 weeks younger than your DS, on the chart our doc uses, she is 7th centile, if she weighs what you DS weighs in 7 weeks, she'll have climbed a bit.

Length is really hard to measure reliably in a baby, has head circumference been tracked?

A cough for 2mths would probably slow weight gain, but from the info you've given, it doesn't sound to me as if the slow weight gain is at a dangerous point, where you must shovel formula or fat in to him now.

If you don't have a family background that fits the pattern then it does make sense to look into possible issues, but don't bypass overall health. I have a lifelong friend who was born the same day as me, in the same hospital, 8hrs before me, our mums hit it off and she even got given my first name as her middle name, anyway, turned out she has celiac disease, whilst poor weight gain was a clue, it was the comparison with me, a picture of health, but also poor weight gain that encouraged her mum to push the issue and find our what was really wrong.
