Anyone having a baby at 40+ years ?

Hi. I have actually had a baby at 41, but I am asking because I am still nursing my 16 month old and would like a younger sibling for him. I haven't ovulated since his pregnancy, and judging from past pregnancies (he is the youngest of 5) it looks like I probably won't til he's 2.I really don't want to wean him, especially there's no guarentee I'll get pregnant at my age(I'm 43 now).

My question is whether being preg at 44 is very different from being pregnant at 41? I found the pregnancy to to be fine, though did have plenty of early braxton hicks and a loose sacro illiac joint which was quite painful. I did find the testing stressful and probably would do things differently this time around.

Does anyone else have experience they can share? I have been feeling impatient about getting pregnant again, but I realise there's really nothing I can do to speed up the process short of weaning, and I'd rather not do that.
I'd appreciate any feedback.Thanks

Here is the link to our Pregnant, 35 and older thread. There should be plenty of experience there for you to pick through.

There is another thread in the Trying to Conceive forum ... 40+ Trying to Conceive . There are some posters on this thread who are nursing and ttc.

I am 43 and 7 months pregnant. I do tire out more easily this pregnancy then my first @36. Other then that the pregnancy has been smooth and fun and non eventful! (The most trouble I had was keeping pregnant (2 miscariages (@40 &@41) and 1 chemical @42))

I had my fifth at age 41 too! It was a great pregnancy. I also would love one more and am in the same boat as you, still nursing and all. I suspect that pregnancy at 43 or 44 will be a little more exhausting but otherwise great. Looking forward to sharing that experience with you at MDC someday!

I had my 1st at 38 & am now pg with #2 at 40. I am def more tired now, but is it bec I am running aroung after an active 1yo or my age?? I dont know?

I did wean at 8mo specifically to get pg again. I froze enough milk so he got some bm supplemented with formula until he was 1yo.

I used accupuncture to help get pg this time. I just felt pressure bec of my age - scared that it may not happen again. After 1mo of no Bfeeding & still no period I went to the accupuncturist & she prescribed some chinese herbs to get the flow going. within 1wk it was back. I thought I was not ovulating right away. The OB comfirmed that I was. I had no signs of it not even a temp change. within 1mo of starting weekly accupuncture & daily chinese herbal medicine, I was getting temp shifts at ovulation & had all other signs like CF, etc. in another month I was pg. The point is try accupuncture it is amazing.

Dont give up bec of your age. There are things you can try.

I plan to BF #2 for the same amt of time maybe even less & try for #3. As much as I would love to Bfeed forever (I love it), It means more to me to have a larger family than just our little one.

Sorry I really didnt ans your Q. Just wanted to say dont let your age deter you.

I'm 39, expecting my second in April. My first was when I was 19, and I can tell you for sure there's a difference between those twenty years, but I would really doubt there would be much difference between 41 and 44. We're planning on having another one as well. No planned timing, just when it happens (if it happens -- I trust my body will make the right decision). The thing to remember is that women have been having babies well into their 40s for many, many generations. We're built for it. It's only the last few generations that have had the birth control options available to them so that they can stop sooner if they like. Or, conversely, not start as early.

I am 40 and feel like I have been hit by a bus this time. My first birth was at 20 and I finished my BA VERY pg. Seemed so easy when I was in my 20's. My 30's were a bit harder but 40 is HARD (could be because
it is baby 10 )

I had my #8 at 40 and currently pg with #9 at 41! Never thought in a million years I'd still be having babies in my forties!!

Freestyler, I too hope we get to share the pregnacy experience soon too!

I've decide to try and limit my toddler's nursing to when he wakes,nap-time and bed time. I will also feed him durinmg the night. Most nights he manages without til 5 am. I'm willing to cut the nursing back to see what will happen, but I don't want to wean him.

I am also doing acupuncture and chinese herbs, I have doing it for 3 years and I believe it helped me get pregnant with my DS.
I'm also taking all sorts of supplements, tempinmg and charting and using opks. So far, no idication at all of ovulation. I guess I'll have to trust my body and if it is meant to be, it will be!

Thanks for your replies.
