IME this is all over the map. Here are some examples...

My immediate family all are multigender families within the first two kids born, except mine:

sister 1: BGG
sister 2: BG
brother 1: G
brother 2: GBG
brother 3: BGBGBB
me: BB (broke the mold - single gender family - so far!)

My extended family that had >1 kid are:

aunt 1: GGGG
aunt 2: BBBBB
aunt 3: GB
aunt 4: GB
aunt 5: 10 kids multigender, don't know them all
aunt 6: 11 kids multigender, don't know them all
grandparent 1: BGGBB
grandparent 2: GGGB

DH's immediate and extended family virtually all are monogender families!!!

BIL: BB
aunt 1: BB
aunt 2: BB
aunt 3: GG
aunt 4: GGG
aunt 5: B
aunt 6: GG
grandparent 1: BBBB
grandparent 2: GGBGGG (the only family with 2 genders, barely)

2 boys so far with a girl on the way!
I'm one of 2 girls, with two boys of my own. Hoping #3 is a girl! My grandmother had 2 boys and then a girl. My other grandmother had BGBG. All of my aunts and uncles have one boy and one girl (8 cousins total, 4 of each).

I voted 'one of each': Oldest is a boy, youngest is a girl.

Statistically, your options for two child pairs are:

BB
GG
BG
GB

Same sex pairs: 2/4
Different sex pairs: 2/4

Therefore, your chances of either is 50%.

Actually, the odds of having a boy are slightly greater than having a girl (more boys are born every year than girls). But - girl pregnancies are more likely in highly polluted areas and for women not living with their partner. So it's not exactly as simple as a toss of the dice whether a boy or girl will be conceived. See for example this or this or this.

Also, the timing of DTD may have an influence on sex (Shettles method), and there is some scientifically defensible evidence to suggest that this is true. It is believed that if you DTD right around ovulation, the odds of conceiving a boy is greater, but if you DTD several days before ovulation and not again before O, the odds of conceiving a girl are greater. If true, then for a given couple, the BG ratio will be a function of DTD patterns, to some extent. For example, my GMIL had GGBGGG, and was using the rhythm method to avoid for 3 of the girl pregnancies. She abstained beginning at 4 days before O, while we know that sperm can live as long as 5 days, so if the Shettles method is true, then that would explain why those 3 unintended pregnancies were more likely to have been girls.

I am not sure any of these issues would alter the ratio very much from the 50-50 chances you note, though. I just thought these studies were kind of interesting and might be important on an individual (not a population-level) basis.

But the OP didn't specify birth order. Therefore, BG and GB are the same thing in OP's poll (opposite sex children), so your chances would be 2 boys, 2 girls, or one of each. Therefore, "same sex" has a 2/3rds chance, and "opposite sex" has a 1/3rd chance.
