Meals for January 2010! Start the year off right!

In an effort to eat better we're buying a bulk of our food from a local farmer. So, I needed to plan out most of the month (so we only have to make one trip)

Pesto Tilapia
Mexican Shepherd's Pie
Pork Chops
Cajun Night
Mexican Lasagna
Pork Roast
Fried Chicken
Ravioli
Salmon and Rice
Roast Chicken
Spicy Sausage and Rice Casserole
Cabbage Hamburger Bake
Lacquered Chicken
Pork Chop Potato Bake
Chorizo Egg and Bean Tacos
Chicken Oreganato
Stuffed Zucchini
Chinese Night
Chicken Tortilla Soup
Fried Tilapia
Hamburgers
Chili
Hot Dogs

So, that's my list. It's pretty much in order. Some things will be done more than once...

I LOVE tilapia! I can't believe you can get tilapia from a farmer!

Does "order" mean the order you intend to cook and serve or order of preference for what you purchase?

I plan my meals with leftovers in mind, so if it means cook and serve I would do it very differently. For example I would probably cook the bean tacos on night 1 and then use the leftovers to go in the Mexican lasagna for night 2. I would make the roast chicken on night 3 and throw the leftovers into the tortilla soup for night 4.

I REALLY like variety, but I hate wasting food even more.

Tilapia doesn't happen to be one of the things we're getting from a farmer I can get it in bulk at Walmart.

That's the "order" I plan to cook in basically...

DH takes leftovers to work or I eat them as lunch the next day...either way they get eaten. It's just the two of us eating dinners right now so I can make them fairly small. I've also gotten pretty good at gauging how much DH and I eat.

I only plan week-by-week. Here's the plan for this week:

Sunday (today)
L: fried shrimp, seasoned veggies (sugar snap peas, red peppers, potatoes), fruit
D: chicken, sausage, and shrimp gumbo (can you tell we like shrimp? :grin) & salad

Monday, 1/11
L: leftover whole wheat spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, rolls
D: out (DD has dance on Monday evenings, so we grocery shop while she's there & then eat out as a family when she's done)

Tuesday, 1/12
L: leftover gumbo
D: chicken tacos & refried beans

Wednesday, 1/13
L: bean burritos
D: eggs cooked to order, turkey bacon, biscuits

Thursday, 1/14
L: corn dogs & fruit
D: teriyaki chicken (crockpot recipe, easy & GOOD), lo mein noodles, Chinese green beans

Friday, 1/15
L: leftover teriyaki chicken, lo mein noodles, Chinese green beans
D: sloppy joes, baked chips, fruit

Saturday, 1/16
L: frozen pizza (I have a baby shower in the early afternoon, so need something quick)
D: Chicken parmesan over angel hair pasta, lima beans, French bread

Sunday, 1/17
L: leftover chicken parmesan, pasta, lima beans
D: vegetable soup

I'm doing a new thing in 2010 where we eat a certain type of meal on each night of the week:

Eating Out Monday
Taco Tuesday (any Mexican dish)
Breakfast For Supper Wednesday
Crockpot Thursday
Sandwich Friday
Italian Saturday
Soup Sunday

It's working out really well so far. Helps with meal planning for sure.
