The Power of Now/A New Earth

I have had these books for a looong time but have never fully read them or grasped their concept. Can anyone direct me to a discussion about these books/teachings? I guess this might be more of a spiritual topic than personal growth but for me the two go hand in hand.

I am just in dire need of some change and feel soooo not in the now. I know that is why I get so much depression and anxiety (esp. in the winter) and I would love to talk to others that have this problem and want to do something about it. I wasn't sure if there was already a thread about this somewhere on MDC but I am assuming there prob. is!

I know these books have been out for a long time so I am prob. way behind on this but I have just never taken the time or wanted to take the time to read these and grasp what they are saying...

Thanks so much!

A New Earth changed my life.

Go to Oprah.com and look in the Spirit section or do a search for Eckhardt Tolle. She had podcasts on her website where she and Eckhardt Tolle discuss each chapter. There's also a discussion forum.
They are still there (I went to check). Start with Chapter One and watch each one. It will help you.

Hi - I don't know if there is anything on this forum, but I do know there is an Eckhart Tolle forum board. Just google "Eckhart Tolle forum", and you will find it.

A few years ago, I would have been all over Tolle and his work. I've recently become skeptical of new age gurus and authors. I now see that because I suffer from depression, I try to latch on to someone who I perceive as being "higher" to help me.
I'm not saying it can't help, but I do urge everyone to be careful about giving anything to people we see as more spiritual.
If you want some information about others who have had bad experiences with people like Tolle, Byron Katie, James Arthur Ray, etc just let me know and I'll pm you some info.
If you do have depression, please find someone who is trained to help.
I hope you feel better soon.

Yes, I agree with pp's & to check out the podcasts that TinaM wrote about. Also, the *things* that seem to keep me in NOW effectively are routine and being present in breath.

Ex: i wake daily w/o an alarm just before sunrise. do at least 11 sun salutation (a&b series). then start the rest of my day. for me this is so helpful b'c i used to be dead tired even at 9am wake ups. it took a routine to help my body align with better sleep. which keeps me in the now, as my mind is more clear than when i'm tired, yk?

and breathing: being mindful of your breath is great for being present. to start, if you can bring mindfulness to the inhale/exhale renewing cycle whenever you notice yourself feeling anxious or whatever, you will notice that the level of anxiety is lowered and solutions begin to come to mind instead of maintaining a high stress monkey mind. hth!

Happy New Year and all the best for you in 2010!!
