I need advice and encouragement! My dd is 4.5 and is still not interested in potty learning. We have tried introducing it since she was about 2--bought a potty, took her out shopping to pick out her own undies, brought home potty-themed books, let her pick out some stickers that she could use to keep track of her progress. We've tried several times, to no avail.
She's been at home until this year; I'd hoped at preschool (very small school, 3 mornings/week) she'd see other kids doing it. No effect.
I *really* want her to be experienced with the potty by the time she starts Kindergarten!
We've been very careful not to push it, not to make it a big deal. But the effect of that is that she just doesn't care or have any interest and so nothing has happened. (No older or younger sibs, very few neighborhood friends. Those friends she does have, as well as older cousins, don't want an audience when they're peeing.)
Does anyone have any advice? Today we began the process again, doing things very incrementally (she was out of her pull-up today twice for brief periods of time. Didn't use the potty, though). We made a chart, but she didn't seem all that excited about filling it in and getting rewards.
I keep being tempted to just say, okay, it's time. Here are your undies, no dipes during the day. But she's already resisting even the slightest hint of that, and I don't want it to become a battle of wills or a traumatic thing. We've tried talking about it as a grown-up accomplishment she can be proud of, and are hoping to go that route. But I'm just not sure what the heck we're doing. Any advice?
