Great advice from pp ... small steps.
Getting the resume spiffed up takes time and thought. Run it past a few respected professional friends to get recommendations on changes and best choice of language.
Once that's done, make sure you have references ready to go. Some employers call references before they will even interview you (irritates me because references are bothered repeatedly for jobs for which I may not be a serious contender, but that's just the way it is).
I got several interviews through online sources and targeting specific companies who have online matching systems. I was stunned, especially since I had been out of the job market for 7 years at home with my kids. I also networked with everyone I knew to let them know I was looking
Once you get interviews, it can be tricky taking time off work to go to them, but the writing may need to go on the wall with your current employer that you are looking.
