Today wasn't spent decluttering as much as it was cleaning. You know when you're in the middle of the de-cluttering madness and there are boxes and bags *everywhere* in every room as well as stuff that still needs to be gone through, on top of your general house mess. Well that's what I spent a few hours trying to get under control.

I managed to get the spare room into a semi-reasonable state. We threw the yukky mattress out, got rid of some more cardboard boxes (our recycling bin is full) and i've added about 20 items for donation. My total now is 474/2010.

Might do some more de-cluttering tonight but should stop for now. It's already 8pm and I haven't made dinner!

Time flies when you're throwing things out!

Went through one kitchen cupboard and three draws of my nightstand (I am afraid of the top one because it is so bad so I am saving it for another day )

7 magazines
1 ripped undershirt
1 razor holder
1 empty tape dispenser
10 items donated to the food bank
3 old spices in the garbage
4 piles of papers (big ones)
1 catalogue
3 old markers
Total = 31

I found so many books that I have purchased not gotten around to reading in my nightstand that it is embarassing. Starting to read them today

updated total: 332!

My total is 35 now....
Slow and steady will get me to 2010 by the end of 2010, right????
I have been going through things a little at a time.

I am currently scrapbooking (project challenge) and I have recycled several items (5) and tossed out used up adhesive (2). =7

DD had a birthday party on Saturday and instead of going to the store to buy a gift, we went shopping in our gift box (items I have purchased ahead of time). Two items left our home that suited the birthday girl quite well and now we have room for all the gifts to actually be inside the gift box. =2

We have a dozen items in the perpetual charity bag (which was emptied earlier this month), but I don't count until the items are physically out of the house.

My total is now 44 of 2010, which is still a very small percentage (just over 2%). If I did the math correctly, in order to go slow and steady and achieve the ultimate goal of 2010 items, one would get rid of 5.5 items every single day in 2010. We've completed 17 days of the year, so that would be 93.5 items gone... to be on track. I am behind. Luckily, there is plenty of time to catch up!

I have gotten started! We have a small apartment and not a whole lot of extra stuff, but I am trying to concentrate on the stuff I really do want instead of on what I throw/give away. I think "If I didn't have this right now, would I go out and buy it?" If not, I can probably get rid of it.

Last night, I opened my new ironing board pad (heatproof pad - generic size - had to cut to fit properly) and cover (cinch it to fit). I tossed out the scraps of the pad! I also tossed the old worn out, elastic has disintegrated, cover-and-pad-in-one. And, big drum roll, please.... I threw out the large envelope the items came in. I usually save all this stuff for our next shipping issue, which seems to never happen anymore. This envelope happened to be kind of gross on the outside, so I didn't offer to any neighbors. While I was doing this stuff in the project room, I came across a small project I never plan to do, so that hit the road, too. = 4

This morning, I planted broccoli and romaine and recycled the six-packs they came in immediately (instead of saving them for some day, like the scraps of heat pad I was tempted to save). I also tried to caulk a few things outside between rainstorms, but my caulk was all dried out. I tossed it versus waiting for later. (I borrowed some caulk from a neighbor who sent me into her backyard to get it - I am very familiar with her yard, etc - and I found one of hers to be empty, so I tossed it for her. Not counting it in my totals, but thought it was amusing enough to share. ) = 3

51/2010 = 2.5% of goal; 18/365 = 4.9% of time passed to achieve goal
[I'd like to see my % of goal to equal or exceed my % of time passed.]
