finally got around to purging my first items...

1 - our old office chair
2 - a rug fragment that i'd been holding onto for some strange reason
3 thru 26 - 24 pairs of underwear

hooray! feels good to get rid of stuff. it's a small start, but it's a start (i normally hold onto EVERYTHING).

i could have written this but replace girls with boys. yes i LOVE hand me downs...my oldest starts with them and they get passed on to the younger two...one good thing about getting many pieces is they don't get worn out so quickly and keep in good shape for #3 ...but it is 5 of us in 900 sq. feet condo...short on space...the trunks of our cars are outdoors toy bins ha ha

i have a hard time getting rid of old toys...new toys that we received get re-gifted no problem...but I have some old toys that i can't let go off...don't know why...

Decluttered some old cds yesterday that have moved house several times with us and never been unpacked (until now)

41 CDs to 2nd hand CD shop
5 CDs posted to new owners
4 broken CD covers into trash
1 old pair of spectacles recycled in spectacle charity bin
1 glass jar dropped & spectacularly smashed all over kitchen floor (not exactly decluttering, but it is gone from the house now so I'm counting it )

7 tattered dishtowels & pot holders
1 unwanted toy
3 books
1 half empty jar of sprinkles with a missing cap
1 card game
1 outgrown shirt
2 random, pointless cords

Nothing is out of the house yet, so I am not counting it. However, we went through the game cabinet last night and some other children are going to be thrilled with 2 puzzles, 1 card game, and 2 board games (all outgrown and chosen by DD).

I have a designated spot in my side of the master bedroom closet for charity items. We all put things there as we decide we don't need them for whatever reason. I hadn't looked specifically in that bag since the 100 items by year-end challenge. The current bag was half full before adding the items last night.

I seriously need to join. I was slow moving before the holidays and now Im paying for it! SO MUCH STUFF! I haven't even sorted/found a spot for it all yet The walls are caving in on me. Not to mention that its dd's first birthday party in 2 weeks

I have a PILE to go to the second hand store. Sadly sitting in my dining room waiting for dh to take

I did get rid of 1 grocery bag of stuff in this weeks recycling and one in garbage

I'm in! I've been on the fence about whether to join in, but after looking in my closets . . . er, yeah, I can definitely declutter 2010 things this year! Will get started now while the baby's napping and check in later.

Okay, today was like Christmas all over again with a few new things I treated myself to. I bought a new pair of running shoes for the 10K training I started today, and I received a new book and a new laptop bag that I ordered online. So, for the new shoes, I'm letting go of a bunch of old shoes. For the new book, I'm getting rid of some old, unneeded books. For the new laptop bag, I'm getting rid of old purses, totes and bags that I haven't used in YEARS.

31-37. 7 pairs of shoes to Goodwill
38-41. 4 purses/bags
42. Sunhat

The books will come in a bit. I need to think good and hard about the ones I should let go.

3-28: Box of stuff to the thrift store, including light bulbs, manual breast pump, baby clothes, knick knacks.
29. Pile of paper.

I have 4 books to send out, just waiting to see if I get another order.

Out today.

20 books
70+ blocks, cars, my little ponies, puzzles and games

197 + 90 = 287/2010

Went through bins of baby clothing today, and sorted them into four categories: trash, charity, keep, and sell. Counting only the trash and charity items, I got rid of:
95 clothing items
50 socks
1 crib bumper
2 baby gates

I'll be sorting through the sell pile again tomorrow, so I can piece together lots to post on our local craigslist-ish site. As they get sold, I'll count them.

Also out the door, courtesy of dh cleaning up the rubble from his remodeling mess in the basement:
12 cardboard boxes
4 paint cans
6 large garbage bags full of construction trash
1 5 gallon bucket
1 decorative shelf
1 broken table

This brings my total to 256/2010. I'm finding it startling to be over 10% of the goal on January 5. I'm sure this will slow down, but for now I'm enjoying the decluttering.

I'm so in, starting today! I may conservatively estimate the numbers of some items that I get rid of in bulk because I don't want to distract myself from declutter with the process of decluttering...But I'm so in.

My starting accomplishments for today:

1-5: Unneeded and unused undersink items, all contents properly disposed of and containers recycled.

6-13: Two sweaters, five shirts, and a skirt for donation.

14: Beat up pair of shoes, trash

15-30: Two dishwasher baskets, an old purse, a nautical themed candle holder, two votive holders, an inflatable bath pillow, a Wicked Soundtrack CD, and various other random items. (Freecycle)

31-50: Toys, board books, and back issues of Baby Bug that my kids have outgrown. (Freecycle)

I can't wait to add to this list!

Edited to add:

51: Pedestal sink base, to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store
