How quickly did you go from 2cm dilated to active labor? I'm 36 weeks pregnant with twins and have been 2cm / 60% effaced for about a week(or longer...i hadn't been checked for 3 weeks before that). As you can see- I'm feeling impatient and ready to meet my babies...so I'm curious. Thank you, Mamas!

With both births I was around 1 or 2cm when I went into active labor. My dilation is always very slow (and depressing sounding) during labor and then wham! transition and complete dilation come on pretty quickly. So, now I don't put a lot of faith in those numbers since there was no "typical" progression for me.

with dd1 I was 2-3cm and 50-75% effaced from 37wks on. I also lost my mucus plug 10days before going into labor. My mw kept saying that she was waiting for a call from me anyday saying I was in labor.
When I went into labor though I went very fast. I went from 6cm (when I got the hossy) to fully dialated in a matter of 2 hrs.

With both my kidlets I started dilating and effacing at about 38 weeks. My first babe was born right at 40 weeks, my second 42 weeks! In the end I ended up being induced with my second. On the morning of, I was 4cm and 75% and they still needed to induce me. Started with the gel...that did nothing, broke my water and within 1/2 hr I was ready to push.

With ds2 and dd I went from high and closed to BABY in about 4.5 hrs each time. However, I have a friend who walks around at 4-5 cm for WEEKS before going into labour. Every woman is different and cervical checks before labour actually starts mean NOTHING (says the mama who has seen too many friends induced before babe was really ready and who was talked into a c/s partly because I was high and closed at 38 weeks and babe hadn't dropped...none of my babes have dropped until they're on their way out - literally!).

I was 3-4 centimeters for days or weeks before mine were born.
I know you're anxious to meet your new babies, but at 36 weeks they might appreciate a bit of extra time to grow and mature and get ready to nurse and navigate the world. They could probably use a bit of extra maturing, though with 2 little ones in there you must be twice as excited to meet them!

Are these your first babies? Like you said, you just never know, but my first birth was twins. I started dilating very early, but I had problems with preterm labor. I think I was about 2cm dilated for a couple of months before I gave birth at 32 weeks. Good luck to you, and I hope you have an awesome delivery!
