Yeah, it's more noticeable the further south you go. I lived in SLC for a while in college and it has a really different feel. We're thinking about moving up there when we buy a house (we're in Draper right now).

I have been planning on going to an LLL meeting since my DS was born, but I havent made it yet. I wasnt kidding when I said I was shy! I should just get the courage to go. What group do you go to, and when do they meet? I did talk to the leader of the Murray group a few times when my DS was newborn.
Hooray! You're in Sandy, which is the group I go to! I love it there. It's at 10 AM on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Community of Grace Presbyterian Church, 2015 E. Newcastle Drive (8890 S.). This is their blog. If you subscribe to the blog, they post a reminder of when the meetings will be, which is helpful to me. All the meetings are listed out to the right.

I could help you with this if you need to learn! I have a sleepywrap that my DS doesnt fit in anymore (he is GIGANTIC) if you'd like it, I could teach you how to use it with a newborn. It was awesome when DS was small.
I have a, um, baby carrier addiction. My current stash is 8 different carriers. I can help you too, and you can try out any of the things I have when your new LO is born, if you like.

Yay! I'm glad I got back on here to chat with you mamas. I'm excited to get together again soon.

Do you have an SSC? I'm wanting to sell our Babyhawk MT and get one. DH doesnt like the straps on it, and he would wear DS more if it was easier for him to manage.

There is a baby store by my old job called Babinskis up on Foothill that sells Ergo, I've been meaning to go try one of thiers on for a while, and I found a place in Ogden that sells Beco, and they said I could try one on there too. I want one that will be easy for DH to use, and comfortable for all of us, my DH and I are both really tall.

I agree, I suppose it's the people that are more reserved here. When I lived in other states I didn't really have a hard time making friends, though like I mentioned I'm a huuuge introvert and shy person lol.

We also have a ringsling, and a mei tai I could show you how to use.

Oh my gosh you guys I'd absolutely looove to! I have a ringsling and that's about it. I see sometimes women wearing their baby in the front position with a (maya) wrap I suppose and it looks really cool, like the fabric was part of their clothing and the plus part is the two hands free. We should start a bw group between us and whoever else wants to join is more than welcomed to. What do you guys think? Leah that's great that you go to the LLL in Sandy. I'll be going to that one for sure now. I'm really determined to bf this one since I couldn't with Landon and let me tell you the hassles we've been through with bottle after bottle. Xavismom I'm really shy too, I had it all set up for me to go with my son and I missed that first time. By the time I wanted to go again I couldn't because of my blood clots.

Xavismom we can do Thursday or Friday, either at a park or an indoor fast food place with a playground in it if it's too hot outside. let me know if that works out for you.

My DH takes my vehicle on days its really hot because his airconditioning doesnt work, and he has to drive to Provo, so whenever you want to do the park thing on a cooler day, let me know!!

I have a Beco and a Boba. I love them both (for different reasons). I was supposed to send one back, but I haven't yet. I would say that the internal harness on the Beco isn't great for me, but it could be really great for someone inexperienced.

A maya is actually a ring sling, but I think you're talking about a moby/sleepywrap. I have one you could try out if you like. I actually loved my ring sling for a newborn, but the moby is nice too.

You can come to LLL NOW, Livia, since you're pg.

My house is also free when it's scorching outside, just not till next week.

Leah I remember you telling me that before, but since I've been pregnant my brain has gone bonkers lol. Anyway I'd love to try yours out, I'll bring my ringsling too so you can show me other ways to use it. Thanks, I'm really excited now!

Really?! I had no idea I could come . Can you bring your other kid/s as well? That's great news! How do you sign up to go? Do I just show up on the day?

Hey guys, I'm here too, just reading and keeping quiet. Livia, come with me to LLL next month, I started going at 6 months pregnant and it's so fun! Everyone brings their kids, so your boys are totally welcome. You just show up! Also, I have an ergo, 2 baby hawk mei tais (one regular, one xt), a hotsling, a ring sling, a stretchy wrap, and a woven wrap I gave my beco to my sister. I'm up for anything. I'm on call for jury duty this week, but otherwise we are around. Claire naps in the middle of the day so mornings or late afternoon are good for us.
Hey Brie, that's great I'll definitely come with you next month! Let me know where and when. I gotta say I love the way you bf your little girl in public. That's exactly how I want to bf my newborn! Our babies must be in sync because Landon also naps around the middle of the day. Anyway I only have my ringsling that you saw, I loved the mei tai that I tried on that time at your place. I need to start taking more serious how to bw before this baby comes. Landon right now only wants to be held anyway so he wouldn't have a problem being worn, I just have to learn what is right for his size.

Good luck on jury duty if you get called, if you need someone to watch your little girl you can leave her here with us.

It's always the second Tuesday of the month (so it will be August 9th) at 10 am. Leah put the address above (post 101). I love nursing, and when baby wants to nurse, it's time to nurse! There is no putting off my 1 yr old, she'll rip my shirt off if she has too!

Thanks for the offer, but dh will just take the day off work if I get called. They'll go do fun daddy daughter stuff, they adore each other.

I think I'm going to take dd to the Children's Museum at Gateway in the next few weeks, so if anyone wants to join us, you're welcome. We'll go no matter what, but it would be nice to have someone to talk to! Let me know if anyone is interested!

Ok I am excited now to go to the LLL meeting and meet you guys. BRmama, I'll bring my sleepwrap for you

I also NIP I've only seen one mother in SLC (besides myself) NIP, so I would dearly love to meet and befriend another!

My name is Melissa, btw. I dont know if I ever introduced myself properly. My son is Xavian, but we just call him Xavi.

I have really been leaning towards the Boba, since it seems to be geared towards bigger babies and toddlers. The only thing that worries me is that I've seen a few people on TBW complain that the straps rub in their armpits, but I cant figure out if this is only in the old style ones, not the new ones, or all of them. Do you get this prob with your Boba? If you wouldnt mind, since you are going to the LLL meeting, would you mind if I looked at yours? I found a lady that sells them out in Tooele that was going to let me try one on, but its a long drive.

for friends!

And we're NIPing it up all over SLC. I have absolutely no shame .

I just love that name. My DS is Andrew Xavier, but he was almost Xavier Andrew instead.

I've found that it does take some adjusting to get right. I am 5'7" average build, no boobs , so that might make a difference. DD fell asleep on my back the last time I wore her and I put her little feet in the straps so they didn't swing and it was blissful .

I have the newer model, and I read that on TBW as well, but it seemed to be mostly larger chested mamas. I haven't had a problem so far, but I'm about to take it on vacation, so I can give you a better idea then. I have noticed that the straps can rub a bit if I don't get it quite right. Then again, my DD is still partial to a front carry, so I've done it about 50/50 front/back.

The thing I really didn't like about the Beco is I can't figure out how to nurse in it.

I'll bring it to LLL and you can try it out. I can bring the Beco if you want to try that as well.

Same here! I'll admit I love NIPing, because I think its so important for people to see it, and normalize it.

That would be so great, and thats really nice of you, thanks! The Beco I was going to try on is in Ogden hehe.

I've never been able to figure out nursing in ANY of my carriers, so its a non-issue for me anyways. I always end up having to take Xavi out, and carry him in my arms for him to nurse. I just want something comfy, and easy for DH to use.

Well, day one of vacation and Boba is a success! It's so comfy. DD was a happy camper all over two airports. More tomorrow when we do more back carrying.

Can I join you guys for the September LLL meeting? (I'll be out of town for the August one.) Nursing didn't go well with my daughter and I'm really apprehensive about making it work with twins.

As for carriers, I have a (homemade) Moby wrap that I love for the first six months or so. Since then, I've used a ring sling hip carry or an Ergo. My daughter hated slings when she was an infant.

I completely agree! Though I have to say because I didn't really get that opportunity with my first one I have no idea how to nip . I'd love to learn more especially because I tend to do extended bf with this one. I think bf is sooo important and a part of life. Here are my dumb questions :

Can you nip while bw? Also when you nip do you use a cover or would that be the opposite of nip? Again sorry for the dumb questions, I have no idea I guess I should hold my questions for when I go to the LLL next month which I'm really excited about.

That's great! I'm glad it's working. I'll have to find out more about the Boba later since Jane liked it maybe Landon will too.

Absolutely! Just an fyi, my mom didn't nurse well with babies 1 or 3 (only a few weeks or months), nursed #2 for 2 1/2 years, and #4 & 5 (twins) for 18 months. So, it is possible!

Not dumb! Yes, you can bw and nip. I've done it in the wrap and the mei tai. It can take some practice and getting used to though. NIP is just that, in public whether or not you cover. I don't cover, but you should do what makes YOU comfortable, not anyone else. I felt like a cover just shouted "HEY! LOOK AT ME! I'M NURSING!!!!!" so I was much more comfortable not using one. I don't think many people notice if you are discreet. I don't worry about being super discreet though, and I've flashed some people, but I just don't care anymore. I think it's funny when people obviously avoid me in the grocery store aisle It's really easy to just wear a tank top under your shirt and then pull your tank down, and your shirt up. People really can't see anything. There is always a demonstration at LLL for the new moms

I've honestly never even tried to cover, because I know my DS would freak out if he couldnt see what was going on! He is always SO afraid he might miss something I know him, and he would just fuss and rip it off anyways. I figure if I accidentally flash someone, oh well. It does get tricky not to sometimes though, with a 8mo that likes to pop on and off a lot bc he is such a little busy bee.

I would LOVE to nurse and BW at the same time, but I've never figured out how to do it. It would make my life much easier though, especially for long day trips and outings.

Not a stupid question at all! NIPing while BW is kinda hard at first, but if you figure it out, it's awesome! I have to admit taht I don't do it much anymore, but I did it a lot when Jane was tiny and in a sling.

And as for covering, I did at first during the days where latching takes a while, but now I don't even care. You do what makes YOU comfy, like Brie said, and don't worry about anyone else. My babies don't like having their heads covered after about 3mo, so then I just focus on either finding a place out of the way or being as discreet as possible. Nursing in the car is great for us if it's not too hot.

I NIPed today sitting on a bench next to a homeless guy, and he told me how beautiful my daughter was . I also NIPed in a restaurant on the Pier in Seattle. I don't even think my BIL noticed (not that he would care). Overall, I have found people to be very accepting in Utah, as long as you're not waving your boobs around in anyone's face.

You can try it out at LLL if you like.

We did a back carry a lot today. She slept on my back for over an hour with the sleep hood up and her sweet little feet in the stirrups. It was great. So comfy.

Thank you all for the answers ! I think I'll cover up till I get the hang of it then uncover lol. It hurts at first and with Landon I didn't pass the hurting phase. Anyway I can't wait to start niping this one!

Thanks Leah! How's it going there? I love Seattle, I went there as a kid. There's this island there that you take two ferries to get to. When a friend of mine went there she said that was worthed it.

Another reason I am leaning towards a Boba, very cool! I'm so excited to check yours out. We tried on an Ergo on Saturday at Babinskis, but it felt kind of bulky and awkward. We really need something new though, we went to the Zoo this morning.... The awesome thing about it was I FINALLY got DS to nurse in the ringsling, bad part, he fell asleep from it, and I had him passed out in the ring sling walking around for about two hours, my low back is killing me now He looked so peaceful I couldnt bear to transfer him to the stroller though...

Are any of you guys going to the breasfeeding cafe at the library?
