Salt Lake City chat and meetup 2010 - Page 8

Hey guys, Landon just barely woke up from his nap (he usually wakes up around now and four). Leah I can do tomorrow at nine if you want since we're all early risers around here.

Brie that sounds like fun!

I wish I could go I'm stuck at home because of the remodel.

Leah we can also try your bw stuff when you get back from your trip if it's easier (either way we're still going to the park if anyone wants to come). I still need to find my ringsling (I hate to say it but we still have stuff in boxes that needs to be unpacked from when we moved in ). I'm just now able to do it since I'm not feeling sick anymore.

Xavismom, maybe you can come to the LLL meeting in Sept. We could also meet before then.

BTW not sure how many of you sew, but I was looking through one of my quilting books and found a pattern for a ringsling if anyone is interested, I can make copies.

I can sew a little. I used to be a lot better when I was in highschool, I made a lot of my own clothes. I was going to make a ringsling a few months ago, and I ordered some rings, I should hunt them down! I'm much more obsessed with knitting lately though, do any of you knit?

I used to when I was younger. I still have my yarn and needles but I haven't gone back to it. Right now I'm doing quilts which btw takes longer but I do miss knitting, I need to get back to it.

I always wanted to learn to quilt! Maybe we'll have to get together for some crafting.

I've been knitting soakers that I'm going to try to sell on Etsy, and toys for Xavian. I actually just got a big box of yarn that I ordered today to make these toys:

So cute I'm starting with the Lamb and the Pug first.

Xavismom those are really cute knit toys. Yeah we'll definitely have to get together to quilt and knit. Depending on the quilt you do it's really easy, just time consuming.

We had our breastfeeding portraits done yesterday by Timbra for the LLL fundraiser. She is SO nice!! I really liked her a lot.

The girl I was best friends with all through jr high and highschool (and now lives in Indiana) is in town. I dont have any siblings, so she is the closest thing I have to a sister. She came too, and I was able to meet her 4 mo DS for the first time. Shes going to the Cafe with me next week. What days are you guys thinking you may go?

I would really like that, its something I've always wanted to try.

Xavismom that's great that you got to meet your friend's son. I am not sure when we are gonna go this week. Tuesday is the LLL meeting, I'm so excited to go!

Hi out there, I am new!

Hi, my name is Georgene and I live in Roy. I just found this site today and am loving it. I have a 16 year old and a 6 month old. I know! Was having some heartbreak over having to find a new Dr. because I am delaying vaccination with my baby and to make a long story short the Ped that I have loved and talked up gave me a tongue lashing Friday.

Anyway, looking for a new Dr. and also any new friends.
Welcome Georgene! Glad you found us

Wish I had a recommendation for you, but our Ped is in downtown SLC. Sorry you had a bad experience.

BRmama, I get to go to the LLL meeting tmrw after all!

I'm going to try to make it to the new moms circle at the cafe today, if my DS is ok with it, he normally takes his first nap around 10 am so we'll see how he is doing in about an hour, and if he's still happy, I'm heading down.

Welcome to mothering Georgene!

I too live in Salt Lake so I don't know any good recomendations up there, you could do a new thread here on this tribe to find out if anyone up there knows any good recomendations. You could also try a family dr. I hear they're nicer towards this issue. It's too bad you had a tongue lashing from your doctor regarding your decision , I hope you find a good dr. who respects your decision.

Xavismom, that's great! It's tomorrow at ten. I think Leah posted the address and information about it on post #101. Just so you know I'm brunette, long dark hair and horrible case of acne (comes on with every pregnancy then goes away after) It's so annoying . I think Brie should be there too and you've seen her pics here.
Btw did you go to the new moms circle today?
Yes, I did go today! I ended up staying for a few hours. It was so nice to meet some really nice Mamas and babies. Xavian LOVED it, he was just in heaven. He was so into being around new people, and especially babies, and new toys to play with. He was so good the whole time too, until I started snapping him into his car seat, and I think thats when it kind of dawned on him we were leaving, and he started crying And he really doesnt cry a lot, it was so sad!

Are you planing on going down at all? I would really like to go at least once more before they close up for the year, and I think Xavi would love going again. I was also invited to join a playgroup that I'm excited about.

Cant miss me tmrw, I'm a really tall, sorta-redhead, with a giant blonde baby. I'm looking forward to it!

I'd like to go down before it ends. That's great that you and Xavi enjoyed it a lot. Let me know when you go down again for the new mom's circle (I guess I should check their calendar )

Good to know, our babies already have something in common, I've got a white blond baby too. Yesterday was his first haircut. Call me crazy but I saved his litte curl lol.

Sorry to say, but we had a car emergency this morning, so I won't make it to LLL unless I find a ride. Have fun though, there are lots of sweet mamas there!
I cant believe how many Mamas were at the LLL meeting! I'm glad I was able to meet you two and your LOs too, hopefully I can meet Leah next time.

Livia, here is the photo of Xavi with his bum up...

Too funny that Landon does it too, it just must be something babes do, its so silly
post #157 of 296
Hey Melissa it was nice meeting you too and your son is really cute! Yeah LLL was fun. Too bad Landon was in a bad mood when I tried your mt.

Anyway your link didn't work, do you mind putting it again? I'll have to post one later of Landon doing the same thing. They're so silly and cute that way .

Okay so this baby I'm carrying comes in November and I really want to take on cloth diapering (have no idea where to start) so any tips? I was talking to my husband and he's on board for it too so I'm really excited ! I guess the magic words around here are saving money with them and EC lol. I think there's a tutorial about them on youtube. Well off to search
post #158 of 296
If you want to pm me your email address, I can send you links to past articles in Mothering on cloth dipes, I remember in the past year there have been two big ones that really break down all the different types well so its not so intimidating.

And you are more than welcome to have one of the wool soakers I make as a baby gift, if you go the prefold route. We use Little Lions prefolds, but I've also heard really great things about Green Mountain. Also heard good things about the Bummis kits.

http://www.bummis.com/us/en/organic-...-kit.php?adr=1

I will probably get one of the infant kits with my next LO, we didnt start using prefolds until Xavi was about 4 mo and I wish we had started sooner.

Our pockets are Rumparooz, and I really really love them. We started using theese when he was a week old, around 8 Ibs, here is how they fit a newborn:

There are other good pocket brands too, like Bumgenius and Fuzzibunz.

Here are a few soakers I have finished, and a photo of Xavian sleeping in one:

When the weather starts getting cooler, I'm going to attempt to knit longies

BRMama, this tutorial on Youtube helped me figure things out so that I could at least start seriously researching cloth diapers. http://www.youtube.com/user/JaimeeGleisner#g/a

This woman is local (Riverton) and so far I've only communicated with her through email, but she seems nice. http://www.littlefornow.com/

I really want to do cloth diapers for these babies, but the thought of that much extra laundry PLUS 2 infants PLUS a toddler scares me.

And on the topic of carriers, I am a huge fan of Moby wraps. So comfy and easy. My daughter really liked it when she was an infant, too. It was the only carrier she would tolerate as a newborn. And the Ergo has been great since about 6 months old (when we got it) - last week I walked all over Muir Woods in California with a 2-yr-old strapped to my back. My SIL had her (giant) 4-month-old in hers with no problems. Just thought I'd throw my $.02 out.

Thank you guys for the replies and the links !

Rachel I'm looking into getting a moby and a mt. Right now I only have one ring sling which I have no idea how to use it with a newborn since when I got it my son was already three months. The last LLL meeting I went to I saw a lot of different carrying positions that you can do with a wrap. You should come to the next one, it was fun, I'm definitely coming to the next one.

Melissa your son is sooo cute sleeping in those soakers that you made. They're soo cute! Are you going to be selling them? Thanks for giving one to me and thanks for the tips, I'm pm'ing you my email address.

We should all get together at a park when Leah comes back
