Salt Lake City chat and meetup 2010 - Page 9

I just moved to SLC this month. We moved from Orem, but dh and I are originally from the Seattle area, and hope to return to Washington after I finish up school at the U. I really enjoyed the LLL, AP playgroup and knitting group I used to attend down in Orem/Provo, and so I'm looking to make some new friends up here. Is there a regular meetup/playgroup you guys do? Xavi and BRmama I would love a babe friendly craft meetup. I don't quilt, but I do apparel sewing, knitting, crocheting, and others

Welcome to SLC I love crafting, I am always up for stuff like that!

How close are you to Sandy? Some of us are closest to that one, I just attended my first LLL meeting last week. There are also Murray and Salt Lake groups. And yesterday at the breastfeeding cafe I was told about an AP/Babywearing group too.

Not really close to Sandy, we live in walking distance to the U. After commuting there from Orem for a year and a half, I am so stoked to be so close!

Welcome to SLC, I love that area up by the U. We live in Riverton and I started going to the LLL in Sandy. Anyway me too, I'd definitely be up for a babe friendly craft meetup. I love any kind of crafting (not good at it, I used to knit so I'd love to restart knitting again) but love it.

Hello,

Just thought I'd stop in here and say hi! I live in Midvale right now, and am going to Westminster in their nursing program. Ds is 3 1/2 and we are currently TTC#2 (assuming we can make it happen during the appropriate time so the baby would be due over my summer break next year

Just looking for some mamma's to do playdates with or hang out with once in awhile when I'm not studying!!
Gator-mom... I don't get on here often but just happened to read your post. You probably know my husband. He is in Westminster's nursing program as well. He is a Jr. What a small world!

Okay, SLC mamas, who wants to meet up this week? We're free today, tomorrow after about 10, and the rest of the week! The weather is yucky, so does anyone want to meet at the indoor play area at the mall? Or even at my house! Come play!

Yes yes yes! This week we're free on Wednesday and Friday. Naptime is in the middle of the day, so over-by-12 or starting-at-2-or-so works best for us. My house isn't in hosting condition, but we're happy to meet somewhere.

What is his name? And what semester is he in the program? I don't socialize much with the students ahead of me..I'm in my second semester.

Hey Leah we'd love to come and play too. Where do you want to meet?

Fun! When do you get back? Thanks again for letting me borrow your book, I'm learning a lot from it.

Who's going to the next LLL meeting this month? We'd love to go again.
I'm really hoping to go to the LLL meeting again, but I am still sharing a car with DH, and his schedule changed AGAIN today

Craziness at home lately, Xavian has learned how to tantrum, and we are currently having a grand nursing battle over fiddling the nipple he is not latched on, so I am really needing to get some help on that I think... I hope I can go. This morning had us both in tears.
Oh Melissa I'm sorry that's happening, sending good bf vibes your way.

Oh man, we are having the same twiddling problem here, sometimes I just grit my teeth and take it, but sometimes I have just had enough! When and where is the LLL meeting?
Hey Angelorum we met at the one in Sandy. Last time was my first time and it was a lot of fun. The meeting is every second Tuesday of each month. There's more info on it is on post 101.

I hope things get better for you and your lo.
Well I didn't make it to LLL but I figured out one thing that's been helping with the nipple play here. When I can't take the twiddling anymore at night or in the morning, I nurse side lying but with the top boob instead of the one close to the mattress. It's a little awkward angling myself that way, but because I'm pretty much laying on my other breast, Westley can't find it. He feels all around my upper arm and armpit, but as long as he can't find the breast, he doesn't seem to get mad that he can't find the other nipple. If he can find my other breast and I'm just covering my nipple with my hand to keep him out, then he gets mad, but if the breast just isn't available at all, then he gives it up. HTH

Angelorum I don't think you missed the LLL for this meeting yet. I'm glad you found a solution for you and your son. I don't think I'm going to this one though, my back is KILLING me. I've enjoyed being pregnant but I so wish I was done.

Well on a positive note dh is on board with the cloth diapers and since we've been researching them we're ready to purchase some. Anyone knows any good place either locally or online that we can buy them? I guess I can search later, right now I'm running on low sleep mode since I sleep sitting down now ughh. Anyway tia

Whew, things have not been so great here. I'm working really hard on my anxiety right now and I'm sorry I dropped the ball on everyone last week. I spent most of the week on the verge of breakdown. It's getting a lot better so I should be up for seeing everyone at LLL next week.

What AP/Babywearing group did you hear about? I would love to try that out!

Welcome! We're looking at houses soon and I would love to live up that way. Every time we go up there I just feel right at home. We're in Draper right now though.

Ah, the nipple twiddling! I wish I had never let that habit start. DD is 18mo now and still doing it, although she is much more gentle now. As long as I keep her fingernails super short, it doesn't bother me too much, and she is starting to understand that she can't do it unless we're at home. Right now we're working on not sticking her hands down my shirt and shouting "NA NEE!" while we're out in public. Most of my friends who have seen her do it think it's cute and laugh at her, which doesn't help.

Nope, you didn't miss it! It's on the 14th at 10AM on the Importance of Breastfeeding. I absolutely positively will be there. I almost never miss it unless we are on vacation.

Livia. Sorry about your back. I loved being pregnant, but the last part is awful. When is your due date again? Did you find a provider that you like?

As far as cloth diapers go, I know there is a lady out in Riverton who sells them, but I can't remember the name of her business. If Laurel is at the LLL meeting, I can ask her about it. I bought almost everything I have from www.greenmountaindiapers.com and I have been really happy with their products and customer service. They have tons of pictures to help you decide, and you can email Karen and ask her any questions you have and she answers the same day. I even asked her for some help for my EC set-up and she was great at helping me brainstorm.

I have lots of good news. I got (re)accepted to the U! And I'm going to finish my BA in the spring! Yay! I'm looking at starting my MFA in either the following spring or fall. And I'm also going to get started on my LLL leadership soon. I'm really looking forward to being able to give something back to LLL since they have given me such awesome support since we moved here.

Anywho, hope everyone is well today.

Just quick- The store in Riverton is www.littlefornow.com I really like ordering from www.momsmilkboutique.com and www.sewcraftybaby.com and www.nickisdiapers.com. We should be at the LLL next week, unless something crazy happens! Oh, and Leah, Claire does the same thing when we are out in public (yelling Na!!!! and grabbing at me). She also fondles strangers, sticks her hand down my family/friend's shirts, and does the "nurse" sign to my sisters while attempting to assault them!

Livia- do you go to a chiropractor? I have a great one at bangeter and 104th (I think). I have back problems too, but regular care while I was pregnant made it so that I had very little pain. I actually just threw out my back last week while I was on vacation, so that totally sucked.

Leah I totally understand, I have sad so anytime you want to talk about it I'm here for you. Also we're pretty easygoers here. I personally think this time of the year is perfect weather for going out. Not too cold or too hot but then again since being pregnant I'm always hot lol.

Leah thanks for the info and congratulations on your acceptance to the U! Just out of curiosity, what are you studying? This baby is due Nov. 15th and I can't wait lol.

Thanks Brie for the sites. I'm so excited about using them on this baby! I did have a really good chiropractor (Melissa knows her) dr. Christina but she's in Murray and I want someone closer now. The one at bangeter is closer to my house. Can you pass me the name? I need to go asap. Also does this chiro work with infants and children? I'm sorry you threw your back out while on vacation. I hope it feels better soon.

So here's a random thought from lack of sleep . When this baby comes I'm sure there'll be a little bit of jealousy on Landon's part which is to be expected anyway. He (Landon) will see me bf his little brother. Do you suppose he'd want to be bf too? He'll only be 21 months and I'd love to ebf him. Idk maybe not. Okay I'm gonna go now before I ramble more. This is what happens when I'm lacking sleep lol .
