Confused about CLO

Hi! I posted earlier about CLO and breastfeeding. I got replies to use fermented CLO because other brands have synthetic vitamins added. I don't want synthetic vitamins but I also get a professional discount on the Nordic Naturals line and was hoping to use their CLO. I contacted them and the rep told me that they do NOT add any synthetic vitamins to their CLO. So if you all know any more info on this controversy, please let me know. I would like to use their product but I also do not want to ingest synthetics.

I found this on their website as well under the FAQ section:

Should I worry about Vitamin A levels in your Cod Liver Oil?

There is some concern that cod liver oil has high levels of vitamin A. This concern stems from the fact that almost all cod liver oil products on the market are supplemented with added vitamin A (natural or synthetic). This is because many cod liver oil products are not made from cod livers! Many brands use fish body oil from species such as pollock or haddock as a less expensive source of oil, and then add vitamin A and D to mimic cod liver oil. This practice is allowed because the international production of cod liver oil is regulated by only one rule—the final product must match the specific EPA ratio (EPA to DHA) found in cod liver oil. These practices are not applicable, however, to the Nordic Naturals brand, and never have been. We have always used 100% Arctic Cod Livers in our CLO formulas, which have consequently always had low, healthy levels of naturally-occurring, fat-soluble vitamin A. We have never used fish body oils or any synthetic additives of any kind in our CLO. Nordic Naturals CLO typically averages 650-1500 IU of vitamin A per serving, which falls in the low range compared to other manufacturers’ products that can contain more than 4500 IU. The recommended daily allowance of vitamin A for adults (as established by the US Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science) is 3,000 IU for men and 2,300 IU for women.

They are on the WAPF 'good' list. I'd use them in second place to the fermented clo, and have before.

Did NN email you a/b the synthetic vits not being added back in (or did you call)? I emailed them a/b it but never got a response--I'd be very interested in seeing what they had to say a/b it...

I called. I called once on the professional line and once on the public line and asked the same question to both representatives like I was 2 different people. They both said that they do not currently and never had added synthetic vitamins in their regular CLO. That is why their normal CLO (Not the one with added D) has such a low amount of D in it. Their CLO with added D DOES have added vitamins. They said it is D3 sourced from sheep lanolin, so natural, not synthetic.

That's all the info I have right now, please someone let me know if it is incorrect.

my understanding is that the refining process removes most of the vitamin A and almost all of the vitamin D. If they are claiming they don't add back synthetic vitamins, that's good, but it doesn't really solve the problem of all the naturally occuring vitamins having been stripped out. Check the label to see how much vitamin D it contains.

It barely has any D (1-20IU which is not even a tiny bit) but for me that is good, really, because I take a separate source of D3 (Carlson's D drops) which I love! I want to use the CLO for the EFAs (DHA/EPA, etc) not as a D supplement, KWIM?
