!!! Anyone with Hale's ??? Need info quick...

I just came out of the hospital where I was being treated for a kidney infection, where I was given the antibiotic levofloxacin (Levaquin). In the hospital, I was given conflicting information about its compatibility with breastfeeding, so I was pumping and dumping at the hospital. Now that I am home, and DS2 will be looking to nurse, I need to know if I must really pump and dump (it would be traumatic for him ). Anyone have the info from Hale's on this drug????

TIA!

You can look up most meds on this site.

Thanks LM!

In the meantime, I was looking on FDA's website for the pediatric studies done with this drug. It looks like it commonly causes tendon rupture for children and adults and carries a black box warning. Hmmm - I think I might ask them to switch me to a different drug when the cultures are returned with drug sensitivities for the bug that I am growing in my kidneys.

THANKS.

L3, concerns are usual antibiotic concerns, thrush and diarrhoea.

THANKS!

We are taking Florastor (a probiotic, type of Brewer's yeast - Saccharomyces boulardii) to help prevent diarrhea.

When DH went to pick up the prescription last night, we found out our insurance won't cover it, because it works the same as ciprofloxacin (which I have taken while exclusively nursing, with no problem), but costs much more because its dosing is 1x per day vs. 2x per day for Cipro . I would rather take the Cipro anyhow, because it doesn't carry the black box warning about tendon problems. Now we have to get in touch with the doc to hopefully make the change.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!!
