Hey everyone,

I like one, DH likes the other...won't tell you which I could go either way, just wanting some outside feedback.

"Jude" always reminds me of the Holocaust. Like the negative, hurtful insults/slurs/labels part. Not sure how better to word that. http://z.about.com/d/history1900s/1/...yellowstar.jpg I guess this is what gets in my head..

Eli is cute, though.

I like both, but I prefer Jude. Too bad DH hates that one....along with about 50 other names I've tossed around with him, including Eli.

I like Jude A LOT. I really wanted it for this baby but DH didn't like it because he hates Jude Law and it reminded him of him so...

I say go for Jude!

I LOVE Jude! To me it seems very strong and sexy.

Eli has always seemed nerdy to me...

I like Jude.

Eli reminds me of a mentally challenged guy who worked for my grandparents growing up. I wouldn't be able to shake that association, so my vote might be a little biased.

I really really like Jude. I always liked the song, "Hey Jude".

Don't know if this will affect your decision or not, but a new movie called The Book of Eli is coming out.

Love Jude. Eli is hot hot hot right now. Add in the the Elijahs and you'll see quite a few around town I think.

We're naming our son Eli James and I both dh and I always get really positive responses when we tell people. (they actually seem genuine, not people just being nice) We hear a lot of "Oh, I just LOVE that name." "Such a strong name." "It's just unique enough, but not too much so to where it's difficult" "That's a good name, let us know if you change it, cause we might steal it for our boy that's coming" "He could go anywhere with that name" "I can't even think of any teaser nicknames for it"

Anyway....just thought you'd like to know the feedback we get from "Eli."

My first thought is always "Jude Law" when I think of "Jude." ...but I think it's getting more popular these days, so soon that probably won't be the only association people have.

I love Jude! Reminds me of Jude the Obscure, the classic novel by Thomas Hardy. Though perhaps not the best association, at least it's literature

Ooh, I like both of those names, but hadn't come across them yet. They're going on my list now I voted Jude, but I could go either way.

Thank you all for voting and commenting! We are STILL stuck, can't decide, and might go with something else entirely. Something more traditional (boring ). We still have 9 weeks to think it over.

It was DH who liked Jude and me who liked Eli. I'm just afraid that with Jude he'll get sick of hearing the beatles song references (I already am, as DH has been singing it constantly).

As a child with a name after a song (Cheer up sleepy Jean... my middle name)

my mom and grandmother used to sing that to me all the time

I think, if you go with Jude... it is best if you start singing it to him when he is an infant, then he will see it as a sentimental song, something to love... rather than something to think... ugh not that song again!

While neither of my children are named Danny... they both love Oh Danny Boy because I sang it to them as babies and they still ask for it when they are sick

Jude

Jude Christopher is on my list

St. Jude the Apostle Bearer of Christ

I like them both equally but I love the name Elijah. Eli sounds like a nickname to me. So does Jude for that matter. Isn't it a nickname for Julian?

I do agree with this. I have tried and tried to get my husband to go for Elias (and using Eli a lot) but it's a no go with him. I love the name!

I picked Eli as I like it better, but I do like Jude a well. Good luck! Names are so hard.

Crashing to say that I love the name Eli but I agree, it sounds like a nickname to me. Elias, Elijah, Eleanor... yes, it can be for a girl too!
