Help-my brand new Kissaluvs are scratchy

I just got some Organic hemp Kissaluvs from Sears, I have done the 'wash and dry 4 times' prior to use as the label said. I actually washed once with detergent, once without, again with detergent, again without and line dried them.

They feel HORRIBLE I cant imagine them being very comfy for a tiny newborn, they feel rough, scratchy and like....cardboard I have never cloth diapered an infant and havent used Kissaluvs before.

Have I done something wrong? How can I soften them up? or is it just cause they are 'hemp'? Im not even sure I want to use them now

Most diapers feel that way when they're line dried. You can usually toss them in the drier for about 3 minutes and they'll soften up. That's what I always did with DD, otherwise they were way too scratchy. Some people are able to line dry without a short stint in the drier, but I have no idea what they do to avoid that cardboardy or scratchy feeling.

Any natural fiber will feel like that if it line dries quickly. Put them in the dryer with some balls for a few minutes.

Since you don't have a dryer, try ecover softener in the wash. Those made mine super soft. But, it's still not going to be as soft as being dried in a dryer.
