Where is your fundus?

Hi all,
I'm waiting a few more days for my appt...am 16w as of today or tomorrow. I won't have an u/s until 20w. My fundus has already hit my umbilicus as of last week (with empty bladder...higher than that with full), and I'm still wondering if it is just being a multip or if I need to wonder about more than 1. I'd love to hear how everyone else is measuring at this stage. I always measure somewhat ahead at the beginning but this seems quite a bit even for me, since I have been 4-6w ahead from the beginning.

I do have a doppler but it is tough to know if there is more than 1 HB...it doesn't have a readout and I get a lot of placenta sounds, one very loud galloping, and hear it elsewhere but could just be echoes or another babe close by. I do feel movement but all low and to my left.

I'm just having a little fun wondering while I'm waiting. I'd be thrilled either way!

I just wish I could figure out how to feel mine, lol! MW said last week that it was about 1-2 finger widths below the belly button, but I can't feel it. I don't know if that's just because most of my body fat is there in front of my gut, or if it's because I'm clueless!

This is my 2nd pregnancy but my first only went to 14 weeks, so I have no idea if that has anything to do with anything...

I'm 17 weeks and mine hit my belly buton a few weeks ago, it's currently a couple fingers above my belly button.

My fundal height is measuring 22 cm and I am 18 weeks. I can feel the fundus at about 1.5" above my navel.

I am due on the same day as you and I'm measuring about 2 fingerwidths below my bellybutton when I have an empty bladder. I feel kicks high and to the right side all the time. I too was worried about multiples but I believe I'm just measuring larger cause it's my third.

Keep us posted!! I'm excited to hear about your appt!

Mine is where it should be, mid-way between my pubic bone and umbilicus.
This is my 9th baby and my fundal height has always been what it should be (at least for the first two trimesters) each time. Parity hasn't impacted it. Your description is exactly like a friend of mine in her early pregnancy. She was getting big, fast, fundal height weeks ahead of dates....twin boys. Just sayin'

Mine is just above my navel at 16 weeks with known twins, and this is my first pregnancy.

MrsWhatsit, maybe try feeling the sides first? Don't know if I can describe this, but lay on your back and try pushing your uterus from side to side while keeping both hands pretty firmly on the area. You should be able to feel something firm hit the left hand when the right hand is applying pressure, and vice versa. Once you can feel the firm mass, kind of follow the outline up to the top.

OP, my midwife has had a terrible time hearing both heartbeats via doppler because Baby B's placenta is anterior. So, we can always hear Baby A's really easily, then we get nothing but placenta for Baby B. The times we have heard both heartbeats, they've been within a few beats of each other, so if you didn't know there were two you could easily think it was the same one, just in a totally different place. You'll have to let us know how many little critters are hanging out in there!

It sounds like it could be normal or not by the range of mamas here! I pulled out my mw records from the last two births and I was not measuring this far ahead with them. At 17w I was measuring 18cm...by 24-26 weeks I was right on with both of them. So this is definitely larger than I usually am.

J that is really interesting about your baby b - I have heard a lot of placenta sounds on my r side the whole time and only rarely find a hb there because it is so loud. I have been thinking it is anterior the whole time as I also have not felt any movement on that side...but I do also hear some placenta sounds on the left side, but not overwhelmingly like the right - and I feel movement frequently on the left so if there's a placenta on that side it is posterior for sure.

I still kind of think it could go either way (which is totally fine!), but I'm pretty sure that it'll be obvious in the next month. Since 16-20w is pretty major in the way of growth spurts, I would imagine things will either even out or be pretty obvious! LOL

what does it feel like? cuz both my b/f and my roommate think I'm having twins. haven't had a u/s yet though so I don't know for sure.

15 wks today, and I can feel mine about a finger width below my navel. This is baby #9 and pretty consistent with my others. I always seem to measure ahead with mine.

Cool! Another mom having #9 in June, what are the chances of that?
