Groups for kids besides Boy Scouts?

XH was very active in the Boy Scouts as a boy and loved it. We'd both like DS to take part is some kind of organized activity like this, especially an outdoor or nature-oriented group, but I disagree strongly with the BSA's stance on religion and homosexuality and I don't want DS taking part in it. Unfortunately, there are no Spiral Scouts hearths in our area. I don't know what else is available that has a focus on the outdoors.

I don't know why I didn't think about 4H! I did it in 7th grade and loved it. I just checked and there's an office in our county. I will definitely call them on Monday. Thanks!

Campfire is another one that doesn't discriminate based on religion or orientation.

DS is active in Adventure Guides, through the YMCA. No descrimination there either. We also avoid Boy Scouts due to their stance on homosexuality.

Spiral scouts is good too, if there is a group near you.

I don't think 4-H has the same focus on the outdoors/nature that Boy Scouts has though. I was in 4-H for a long time. Maybe it was my county but it was much more farm oriented, almost everyone had animals. If you didn't have animals, the other projects you could do were things like baking, sewing, woodworking, house plants, photography, etc. We never did anything like going on hikes, etc. There was the possibility of going to 4-H camp though.
