Thrush on nipples during pregnancy - trying to tandem nurse, now what??

Hi ladies,

I appear to be ringing in the New Year with a yeast infection on my breasts. (I'm sure this is NOT an omen!!) I am also pregnant, and nursing my older son (which hurts right now!) I have some Diflucan in the house - from an earlier bout of this - but I hesitate to take it given the pregnancy. My health-care provider is, of course, unavailable because of the holiday, so I'm looking for other alternatives. Just to make things a bit more fun, my LO is allergic to milk, so I am reluctant to try any yogurt based solutions.

Any suggestions??

Probiotics and cut out ALL sugar. W/yeast it's hard to do bc the yeast thrives on sugar (any kind, even white flour which just turns to sugar in the body) which makes you crave sugar soooo badly.

I am dealing w/this now too. I battled it a few yrs ago when ds2 was a baby and it has flared up again since I have been eating so much junk food since Halloween. My nipples hurt too and my right breast is sooo painful!

I have started making kefir (probiotic drink) and it's really helping. You can also make juice kefir, water kefir, coconut milk kefir, etc. Check out the kefir thread in Traditional Foods, there is tons of info and you could try a non dairy kefir which has 10 times (or something like that) more probiotics than even yogurt. It's a really easy and yummy way (plus much less expensive than buying probiotic supplements) to get all the good stuff into your body that kills yeast.

HTH!

Thank you SOO Much! I had NO Idea there was such a thing as non-dairy kefir, but I'm going to research that right now! I think that would be great for me, and for my little guy - to say nothing of the little one that's still brewing!

thanks very much! Happy New Year!

Have you tried gentian violet? It is available over the counter, but in the USA you have to make sure you get 1% and not 2%. Here is Jack Newman's thrush protocol with an explanation of GV.

Olive oil works wonders on yeast infections on breasts or bottoms.
